The most-loved feature film of Estonian people is „Spring“ by Arvo Kruusement in 1969
The literary base of the film “Spring” is Oskar Luts`s samenamed book “Spring”. The films theme takes place in the last years of the 19th century in one village. This story speaks about life of a village school from autumn to spring. In this book there are so many interesting occasions, colourful people types, deep human feelings and good humour. From all that grows out world outlook of honesty, friendship, first love, in one word – man`s spring of life.

The 4th of October 1896 – in Tallinn`s Stock market building films were first shown. With Edison`s ideal – cinematography films were demonstrated to the citizens of Tallinn for 12 days. The 27th of April 1912 – his first newsreel „Utoškin`s flyings above Tartu“ made Johannes Pääsuke and its premiere was on the 30th of April at Tartu`s cinema Illusion. The 26th of February 1914 – at Tartu`s cinema was a premiere of the first feature film, a political mock story „Bear hunt in Pärnumaa“. It was coloured by hand. The operator of the 14 minutes long short feature film was Johannes Pääsuke the producers were Tõnis Nõmmits and Aleksander Tippo.

„The children of the Sun“ 1941 – Cinema Chronicle Estonian Studios was created which later on became Tallinnfilm in 1963 1947 – the first feature film in Soviet Estonia „Life in Citadel“

1987 – the first international film festival, the first Pärnu`s Visual antrophology festival 1997 – Estonian Film Foundation was created 2001 – a multiplex cinema was opened in Tallinn 2004 – the cinema Sõprus begins to show valuable films
