SFT Workshop Thursday Aug 24th, 9am-12pm, breakfast 8:30 am in C-134 Fall Faculty conference: Friday, Sept. 1, 8:00 – 4:00, breakfast and lunch in Campus Event Center New faculty workshops: Wednesdays from 9:55-11:10 CC Meeting Room 4 Day of Teaching: 10/18 and 10/19

Dates for adding/dropping, withdrawing from class Full refund: Tuesday Sept. 12 50% refund: Friday Sept. 22 Last day to withdrawal (no refund) with a W grade: Tuesday Nov. 14 Dates for Sub Term sessions differ – check calendar Precepting days Tuesday October 24 (no classes held) Wednesday November 1 (classes beginning at or after 3:35 PM held, any class before cancelled) Last day of classes Saturday December 9 Finals week: Monday December 11 through Saturday December 16 Grades due Graduating students: Tuesday December 19 at Noon Non – Graduating students: Thursday December 21 at 5:00 PM

6 Suggestions Regarding Teaching
Meet with in-program mentor in the first week or two of the semester Ask for resources Sample syllabi, grading rubrics, videos, podcasts, etc. Request “student” access to their BB courses Ask them for precepting guidance (can you observe precepting sessions?) Meet with colleagues who teach/have taught the courses you are teaching Meet with an out-of-program mentor for additional suggestions Use the IFD for advice

Focus on establishing your research agenda Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) appropriate here Seek out advice of trusted colleagues in your program and school Pay attention to your program standards and school standards

Start small – no one expects you to do otherwise in your first year Balance across: Program School University External Listen for the first semester/year

12 Practical Matters Allow plenty of extra time to get to class and the new faculty workshops the first few weeks of the term due to parking. 12 month pay option—talk to HR You can request a computer lab for an individual class section if need be for the fall—do it early. 13D, 13O: Tenure clock starts now
