Balin, a singer, searched to find other musicians to form a house band
Formed in 1964

3. Grace Slick Became the band's new & permanent female singer

Wrote many songs including
the hit,
“Somebody to Love”

4. Temporary Breakup
After producing several albums together, they broke up in 1970
Eventually reformed as the Jefferson Starship
Released Red Octopus, their only #1 Album
Regrouped and performed many times until the 80s
Inducted into Rock Hall of Fame in 1996

5. Santana

6. A Unique Style Carlos Santana formed the band in the late 1960s
Use of Latin Rock separated them from all others
Became famous after their performance at Woodstock
