1 Co-Curricular Hours vs. Homework Hours
By Monica Margarit and Tara Sims

2 More hours = less hours Less hours = more hours
Question, Objective and Hypothesis Question: Does the number of co-curricular hours affect the number of homework hours among students in Grade 10? Objective : To investigate if the amount of co-curricular affects the amount of homework done by grade 10 students Hypothesis: The students who complete more hours of co curricular do less hours of homework because they have less time to do homework. Alternatively, students who spend more hours doing homework will do less hours of co curricular as they have less time to do so. More hours = less hours Less hours = more hours In summary:

3 method Are you male or female?
50 students from grade 10 were surveyed online (through Google Forms) for us to obtain their results technologically. The questions asked that we used to collect data were: Are you male or female? Approximately how many hours of co-curricular do you do a week? Approximately how many hours of homework do you do a week? For question two, recipients were given the option to type in their answer (as answers could vary at high levels for those highly committed in sports and music) For question three, recipients were given the option to select a number between 1 and 12 or the option to type in another number. survey

4 The results 10, 14, 3, 20, 1, 7, 5.5, 7, 6, 9, 1, 9, 4, 6, 7, 4, 7, 8, 15, 0, 10, 8, 6, 30, 13, 30, 5, 3, 11.5, 5, 8, 18, 11, 20, 20, 8, 18, 9, 6, 20, 5, 1.5, 16, 0, 15, 13, 2, 5, 27, 4 With this information, we graphed the number of co curricular hours against the number of homework hours for each individual.

5 Analysis of results Other information: Mean of co curricular hours: 9.83 Median of co curricular hours: 8 Mode of co curricular hours: 5 Range of co curricular hours: 30 Standard deviation: RELATIONSHIP: : Weak Negative Relationship As the number of co-curricular hours increases, the number of homework hours decreases. Mean of homework hours: 5.88 Median of homework hours: 5 Mode of homework hours: 5 Range of homework hours: 18 Standard deviation: Red circles represent outliers in the data.

6 Female vs Male Results RELATIONSHIP -0.358659954
Moderate Negative relationship RELATIONSHIP Little to no relationship

7 Conclusion In conclusion, our hypothesis was supported weakly. The data showed that hours spent doing co curricular activited had a small effect on the amount of hours spent on doing homework by grade ten students. There was a weak negative relationship between the two variables. There was a stronger relationship between co curricular hours and homework hours among females over males.

8 Limitations and Suggestions for further research
All subjects that were surveyed were from the same school Only 50 people were surveyed Only one grade was surveyed In order to get a more accurate result, next time a greater number of people would need to be surveyed as we only gathered data from 50 people. This is because a large sample size is more representative of the population. Also, surveying people from different schools may provide a better result because different schools may differ in the amount of homework given and emphasis on co-curricular. As data was collected from one grade only, it limited data for only one age group. Different grades have different amounts of homework and time for co-curricular and by surveying more than one grade these barriers can be reduced.
