2 What is Geography? Geography is the study of the earth and the way people live on it and use it.

Location *Where is a place located? *What is it near? *What is the direction from one place to another?

5 Human-Environment Interaction
The environment is the surroundings in which people, plants, and animals live. People influence their environment, and are influenced by their environment.

6 Movement Another theme of geography is the movement of people, products, and ideas around the world.

7 Regions A region is an area with common features that set it apart from other areas.

10 Your Job We are going to read Where the Wild Things Are as a class.
Listen closely as the wild thing’s island is described and visualize what it might look like. Then you are going to create your own island map.

11 Wild Thing’s Island Map
Things to include… Your map must have a drawing of the island. A title of where your island is LOCATED. Drawing of the physical features of the PLACE. RELATIONSHIPS-what kind of people or creatures live there? Draw them. How do your creatures get around the island? What do they do to show MOVEMENT? REGIONS- Draw special things that makes your island different than other places.
