Microsoft Inspire 9/17/2018 2:10 PM Proactive Insights Telemetry-data-driven insights to reduce Windows TCO Streamline OS deployments Keep devices up-to-date Proactively diagnose and fix issues One of the most exciting parts of the Windows Proactive Insights story, is that it is about providing you with real data to give you real insight into what is actually going on with the devices in your organization so that you can make sure you're doing the right things for your customers.    And one of the most exciting things with Microsoft 365 is this idea that we will take the data and telemetry that we collect across the range of applications, operating system, and infrastructure and return it to you to give you perspective and insight on what's actually happening for users every day.    Getting this data means that you can diagnose and fix issues, you can use it to drive deployments, and you can make sure folks within your organization actually stay up to date.   © Microsoft Corporation. 3 So let's take a look at Windows Analytics.

Overview Upgrade Readiness And let's start with Upgrade Readiness. So Upgrade Readiness is all about making sure that you can have a smooth rollout of Windows 10 in an organization. And what Upgrade Readiness shows you is a view of your whole estate: How many machines have already been upgraded? Who's ready to go? And it provides a simple workflow to help you see where you might have problems and to show how can you make sure to address those problems up front. So, first, in this example, let's take a look at the applications that are actually running inside this organization. We can see from real data where these applications are being used and which ones are critical to make sure they are working for these employees.

Overview Upgrade Readiness Next thing, and we're very excited about this. In addition to application data, you can get a look at the real-world usage data for Office add-ins. This is one of the most important parts of the workflow because for information workers, it is the customization built into Office that helps them do their jobs. And now you can get insight into which add-in these workers are using as you go to roll out new versions of Office and Windows, which means you can validate that the add-ins they use everyday will continue to work properly.   You can do the same thing for websites. And we also provide you a lot of data.

Overview Upgrade Readiness And this data is to help you make sure that you are fixing the right problems.

So this is the website Ready for Windows
So this is the website Ready for Windows. If you haven't seen it before, this is an aggregate view of deployment usage for different versions of applications coming from different vendors, so you don't have to rely on asking "Did I poke every button in the app to make sure it worked right?"  You can take advantage of data.

So in this example, we'll actually look at Citrix because they're a great Windows 10 partner, and they're working hard on app compat to make sure their customers have a great experience.

We can go ahead and look them up and select which version of Windows 10 we want to check on.

And then we can see, for every application, "How broadly adopted is it
And then we can see, for every application, "How broadly adopted is it? And what is the report on compatibility?"   So as you roll out a new version of an app, you can use this real-world global data to make sure your customers have a great experience.   <ADDITIONAL DETAILS TO PROVIDE AS NEEDED TO THE AUDIENCE> We provide an Adoption Status for each version of the solution listed within the directory. The Adoption Status is based on information from commercial devices that share data with Microsoft and does not include data from consumer devices or devices that do not share data so the status may not be representative of the adoption rate across all Windows 10 devices. The Adoption Status categories used on the Site are:  Insufficient Data means too few commercial Windows 10 devices are sharing information for this solution for Microsoft to categorize its adoption. Adopted means the solution has been installed on at least 10,000 commercial Windows 10 devices. Highly Adopted means the solution has been installed on at least 100,000 commercial Windows 10 devices. Contact Developer means there may be compatibility issues with this solution, and thus Microsoft recommends contacting the software provider to learn more.

Overview Upgrade Readiness So with all of this data and information you can get through Upgrade Readiness and the Ready for Windows site, you now gain an end-to-end view, and you can be confident that you're ready to deploy to customers and employees, making sure that they'll have a great experience.

Now lets look at update compliance.
Log Search My Dashboard Solutions Gallery Usage Settings Now lets look at update compliance. We’ve heard how hard it is to understand patch compliance for your devices that are on-the-road and haven’t checked in with WSUS or SCCM recently, or for devices that directly update from WUfB. With Update Compliance, you can easily see the update compliance state of all your devices with respect to Windows and Defender. As you can see there are 260k devices total (and update readiness shows that 132k of these are not yet on the latest targeted of win10).

Overview Update Compliance (Preview) Now, let's take a look at Update Comliance. So one of the great things about Windows 10 and Office is this notion of getting current and future updates as you go along. And we've now built the tools and telemetry to help with that.   So you can now get insight into how you're doing on monthly quality updates and make sure you have all critical security fixes.

Overview Update Compliance (Preview)

Overview Update Compliance (Preview) And the same thing goes for semi-annual feature updates. You can answer, Where are these builds deployed? What is the telemetry reported back? And, again, you'll be seeing real-world data based on real user experience.

Log Search My Dashboard Solutions Gallery Usage Settings The last thing  we should talk about within Windows Analytics is device health.  We’ve heard how hard it is to understand if end-users are being disrupted by hardware issues or other configuration changes, aside from expensive help desk calls. Device Health can reduce support costs by proactively identifying and remediating top end-user impacting issues As you can see, there are slightly less devices in Device Health than in Update Compliance; that’s because Device Health requires enhanced telemetry.

And with Device Health you can really raise the bar in terms of what it feels like to be a user within your organization--because you can target your IT investments around the things that matter the most to your users. Here you can look at the real data on what is happening in terms of device crashes across your organization. And, specifically, you can determine what drivers are causing crashes.  Let's pick one of these off the list . . .

And here you can actually see, per version of each driver, which ones are causing the highest percentage of crashes. And you can use this to target investment around where you want to move your user population, so that you can make sure they aren't having to suffer through repeated crashes—and ensure that they really are having a great end-to-end experience. And in this example, we didn't actually pick this driver at random. This is real-world data coming from Microsoft's own IT about an experience that we had where we were able to use exactly this device health data to move system crashes down from the thousands so that users across the broad base of the population had a great experience with their devices and weren't ever stuck.

Microsoft 365 powered device
Microsoft Inspire 9/17/2018 2:10 PM Intelligent security, built-in Microsoft 365 powered device The best way to experience Microsoft 365 Easy to deploy and manage Always up to date So let's recap. This is all about making sure that each device is secure and that users are really empowered to drive their own experience, but in a way that makes it easy for organizations to deploy and manage and helps drive great total cost of ownership. It is about making sure releases are always up to date, so devices are secure, and users have a great experience, but the fundamental theme behind all of it is really, "How do we make sure everything works great." We do that by providing you with the insights and the data around what is happening with the devices in your organization.  Proactive insights © Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.
