I. THE HISTORY OF THEIR FOUNDER
Place of birth: Calzada, Tipas, Taguig, Rizal. Date of birth: Mayo 10, 1886. Firstborn son of Bonifacia Manalo and Mariano Ysagun, both devout Catholics. He had a sister named Praxedes. Mariano Ysagun was a farmer and shrimp fisherman. So the family was dirt-poor. In 1896, the year of the Philippine Revolution, Mariano Ysagun, Felix Manalo’s father, died. His mother Bonifacia Manalo remarried, this time to Clemente Monzo, a widower. Reference: Donald Platt, Counterfeit?, p. 86. 9/17/2018

The origins of Felix Manalo
Bonifacia and Clemente Monzo had two children. Two months before the birth of their second child, Clemente Monzo died. To support the family, Aling Bonifacia found employment as a weaver of bamboo mats. On the other hand, Felix moved from one job to another, as a barber, photographer, goldsmith, and hat maker. Felix found a Bible Felix had an uncle, a certain Mariano Borja, a priest of the Catholic church, serving the parish of Sampaloc, Manila. In 1900, in the parish home of his uncle, he found a Bible. Felix’s later biographers wrote that Felix had been warned by his uncle about that book, but Felix got more curious. Reading it opened his eyes. He began to entertain some questions about the church of his birth. Reference: Donald Platt, Counterfeit?, p. 86. 9/17/2018

Joined the “colorum” group and the Methodist Episcopal church
His religious journey brought him into contact with the “colorum” groups in Banahaw, Catholic sects that preyed on the untrained minds of searchers who wanted something new. He left the group when he discovered that the voice of some spirit speaking from the inner sanctums of the cave, mesmerizing its devotees, was actually that of the “colorum” leader. In 1902, he heard the debate between an American Protestant missionary and a Catholic priest. Two years later, he joined the Methodist Episcopal, studied Bible in their school, and became a Methodist preacher. Reference: Donald Platt, Counterfeit?, p. 86. 9/17/2018

His quarrel with a priest
His mother was dying and, being a good son, he went back to their home in Taguig to spend the last days with her. He saw the priest giving his mother the “extreme unction.” Being a Protestant pastor, and knowing from his studies at the Bible school that Catholic rites and practices were of no effect to the living or the dead, he opposed it. He and the priest had a hot discussion, an argument that led to nowhere. In order to teach the young pastor a lesson, the priest did not allow the remains of Bonifacia Monzo to be buried at the Catholic cemetery in Taguig. So, Felix had his mother interred in an Aglipayan cemetery in the village of Kabaong, near Pateros, Rizal. Reference: Donald Platt, Counterfeit?, p. 86. 9/17/2018

His change of surname, his membership with the Presbyterian Church and with the Church of Christ.
He now sought to honor his mother’s memory by changing his surname to Manalo. Felix’s biographers downplayed the criticism that Felix had his name changed because “Manalo” was much well-known than “Ysagun.” This time he again had a change of churches, from Methodist to Presbyterian. This sect had much improved facilities and a much bigger Bible school, the Ellinwood. Manalo either was a restless soul looking for the right church or an opportunist looking for great gains— for again he changed churches; he now joined the Church of Christ. His experience with the Church of Christ
Leslie Wolfe wrote a letter to a certain brother Laspinas in answer to the latter’s questions about Felix Manalo, affirming the following: (1) That Felix was indeed one of their students at their school. (2) That Felix was their supported preacher, preaching for the Church of Christ at Singalong, Manila. (3) That Felix had married one of their students named Tomasa Sereneo. (4) That Felix had been accused of domestic violence and was disciplined by the church for beating his wife. They had his support cut off when Felix refused to meet with them. As a result, Felix left the Church of Christ. (5) Brother Wolfe said that Felix had also fathered another child with another woman, according to court records. 9/17/2018

His experience with the Seventh-Day Adventist
In 1912, he attended a Bible lecture conducted by L. V. Finster, Adventist missionary. Before the year ended, Felix switched membership to the SDA. By this time Felix was already a widower. He now courted an Adventist lass named Honorata de Guzman. For reasons that were not explained, Felix eloped with the woman. Being a widower, he did not need to, for he was free to remarry. They married on May 9, He brought her to his church in Malolos, Bulacan. The Adventist church did not take too kindly to this action by their local worker. They put Felix under discipline for the elopement and for another infraction they called “moral indiscretion.” That was the last straw for Felix. He severed his ties with the SDA. II. HISTORY OF IGLESIA NI CRISTO-1914 The first group founded by Felix Manalo
Without a church and without support, Felix went back to his hat making business. This time he mingled with a group of skeptics, agnostics, and atheists. He however did not stay long with the group because of their deliberate misuse of the Scriptures. In November 1913, he secluded himself for two days and three nights in the room of a certain Eusebio Sunga in Pasay, who generously provided them lodging. From that experience, he came out a changed man. He now thought he had found the true church and that he had a mission: To strive to end disunity among Christians. With his wife in tow, he boarded a banca across the Pasig River. In Sitio, Punta, Sta. Ana, Manila, he sought the people he had known during his preaching days. The group was registered on July 27, 1914
At the AG&P compound, Felix had some success, immersing his first 12 disciples. This group became the “Iglesia ni Kristo.” Note that the designation of their church is a strict Tagalog translation of the “Church of Christ,” the church that had first supported Felix as their evangelist. And to put an end to criticisms that his church is a “colorum” group, he had it registered with the government, with the sole purpose of preaching the gospel. The first paragraph of their “Articles of Incorporation” says: “Que los fundadores de esta asosacion son: Felix Manalo, domiciliado en Taguig, Rizal, I.F.; Pedro Inocencio, Atanacio Morte, Felicisimo R. de Leon…” In English: “The founders of this association are: Felix Manalo, residing in Taguig, Rizal, P.I.; Pedro Inocencio, Atanacio Morte, Felicisimo R. de Leon…” 9/17/2018

Cases of immorality In 1916, their number had increased. They started expanding outside Manila. By 1922, they had new congregations in the provinces of Tarlac, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga and Bulacan. That year too (1922) Felix was accused of immorality. Many members left his church while others chose to confront him of his sins. The most serious of these challenges to his authority was the “Ora Rebellion,” led by Teofilo Ora and another prominent INC leader named Basilio Santiago. This resulted to the loss of his churches in Nueva Ecija and Bulacan. Reference: Donald Platt, Counterfeit?, p. 87 9/17/2018

Felix’s trip to the U.S. PACIFIC SCHOOL OF RELIGION. Felix Manalo must have realized that although he had the Tagalog charismatic firepower, the great facility in the dialect, he, knowledge-wise, still lacked the power to convince his detractors of the reasonableness of his cause. He had already registered his church. He had already learned Bible at the Methodist school, at the Presbyterian Church’s Ellinwood facilities, and at the Church of Christ’s Bible college. Those were not enough. So we heard him making that trip to America, specifically to the Pacific School of Religion in sunny California in the year 1919. Well, if he did study Bible science in that US theological college, his name would have appeared in the roster of students. It did not (Joseph Giaime, “Ni Iglesia Ni Cristo,” Too Many Religious Sects?, 1980), p. 9). 9/17/2018

The doctrine of the “Sugo” (1922)
In 1922, after the Ora Rebellion, Manalo started proclaiming himself as the “Sugo” (messenger) whom God sent in these last days to preach His righteousness, beginning with the Filipinos. Reference: Donald Platt, Counterfeit?, p. 87. Their reasoning runs like this: (1) What is the true church? It is the church that has a “Sugo,” the man to whom God alone revealed His will in these last days. (2) The “Sugo” is he who fulfills the prophecies about the ravenous bird from a far country (Isaiah 46:11) and the fifth angel who rises from the east (Revelation 7:2-3). That ravenous bird and that fifth angel is Felix Manalo. 9/17/2018

(3) The four other angels are the leaders of America, Great Britain, France and Italy. (4) The hurting of the earth is the First World War. (5) The east and the far country is the Philippines. (6) The servants of God are the Filipinos. (7) The sealing is the preaching of the gospel and the reemergence of the new church. (8) Any church that has no “Sugo” is not the Church of Christ. Since the “Sugo” is God’s last messenger, he too is the man whom men must accept for the saving and sanctification of their souls. “Tanggapin natin siya sa ikababanal at ikaliligtas ng ating kaluluwa” (PASUGO, Enero 1954, p. 28; PASUGO, Sept. 1967, p. 43). 9/17/2018

So both the Old and New Testaments are Felix’s credentials for messengership. Now for the proof that the east is indeed the Philippines, you go to Philippine history book. Felix’s messengership is proclaimed—not in the Bible!— but in his magazine called the Pasugo (Isang Pagbubunyag, p. 184). Why is this very important teaching of the INC-1914 written only in the Pasugo and not in the Bible? Well, the Bible had already been written and can no longer be revised to include Felix’s name (Ibid.). Fantastic reasoning, isn’t it? 9/17/2018

Felix’s last days In 1953, Felix chose his son Erano (his fifth child by Honorata de Guzman, his third son after Dominador and Salvador) to take over his place as executive minister of the INC-1914. Ten years later, on April 12, 1963, Felix died, apparently of cancer. Erano Manalo, who had been waiting in the wings, took over as head of the church that his father had founded. III. TEACHINGS OF THE IGLESIA NI CRISTO-1914
1. WHO FOUNDED THE IGLESIA NI CRISTO-1914? According to the INC, God did! Well, what is the truth? “In 1914, a young Filipino by the name of Felix Manalo, 28, married, began preaching the Church of Christ in a place called the Sitio of Punta in the district of Sta. Ana in the city of Manila, Philippines. This event, which marked the beginning of a new religious movement in the history of what is known as the Christian world, occurred concurrently with the outbreak of the First World War in Europe on July 27, 1914” (PASUGO, July-Aug., 1979, p. 14). MANALO FOUNDED THE INC-1914
The first paragraph of their “Articles of Incorporation” says: “Que los fundadores de esta asosacion son: Felix Manalo, domiciliado en Taguig, Rizal, I.F.; Pedro Inocencio, Atanacio Morte, Felicisimo R. de Leon…” In English: “That the founders of this association are Felix Manalo, resident of Taguig, Rizal, P.I.; Pedro Inocencio, Atanacio Morte, Felicisimo R. de Leon…” “Established in 1914 by Bishop Felix Manalo,” says the Encyclopedia of the Philippines (Vol. xix, pp ). 9/17/2018

THE TRUE CHURCH HAS JESUS AS ITS FOUNDER
MATTHEW 16:18, “And I also say unto thee, that thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it” (ASV). “Upon this rock.” The construction custom in Judea, which too supplied the Lord with themes to use in his teaching (Matt. 7:24-27), is the building of a house or edifice on a rock, as a solid foundation providing security from inundations, tempests, storms and other vagaries of nature. The word for rock here is “Petra,” feminine, not Peter or “Petros,” which is masculine. 9/17/2018

THE TRUE CHURCH HAS JESUS AS ITS FOUNDER
The rock refers to the truth that Peter just confessed: “Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Everything that Christ is—His deity, His divine sonship, His messiahship—is one great foundation on which to erect a divine institution that could stand amidst the flames of persecution and other trials. “I will build my church.” Christ says I will build my own church (“assembly, gathering”). The term is applied to Christians as being “called out” from the world, a body of men and women devoted to a certain Master, a society of people united in a goal to serve God and worship Him in a place. 9/17/2018

THE CHURCH IS THE HOUSE THAT GOD BUILT
PSALM 127:1, “Except Jehovah build the house, They labor in vain that build it: Except Jehovah keep the city, The watchman waketh but in vain” (ASV). 1 TIM. 3:15, “But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how men ought to behave themselves in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth…” (ASV). Note: The theme of Psalm 127 is that human endeavor succeeds only with divine blessing. If we apply the word “house” to the church, the principle still holds true. Any church-building effort that does not have God’s sanction is an empty enterprise. Also, any church that God did not build is not His, and they who promote it are just wasting their efforts. 9/17/2018

THE PLANT THE FATHER HAS NOT PLANTED SHALL BE ROOTED UP
MATTHEW 15:13. “But he answered and said, Every plant which my heavenly Father planted not, shall be rooted up” (ASV). ο δε αποκριθεις ειπεν πασα φυτεια ην ουκ εφυτευσεν ο πατηρ μου ο ουρανιος εκριζωθησεται (Wescott-Hort). Literal translation: “And he answering said: Every plant which my heavenly Father planted not shall be uprooted.” “…Jesus compares the Pharisees to plants in a garden that were not planted by the owner of it, and declares that they shall be rooted up. They were teaching without divine authority or approbation; and what he had said was intended not to please them, but to root them up” (J. W. McGarvey, Commentary on Matthew and Mark). Note: The principle also applies to church planting and church teaching without God’s sanction. Sects and cults exist without His authority; they too shall be rooted up. 9/17/2018

2. THE IGLESIA NI CRISTO BEGAN IN 1914, AT PUNTA, STA. ANA, MANILA. “This movement began in 1914” (Encyclopedia of the Philippines, vol. xix, pp ). Their PASUGO says: “In 1914, a young Filipino by the name of Felix Manalo, 28, married, began preaching the Church of Christ in a place called Sitio of Punta in the district of Sta. Ana in the city of Manila, Philippines. This event, which marked the beginning of a new religious movement in the history of what is known as the Christian world, occurred concurrently with the outbreak of the First World War in Europe on July 27, 1914” (PASUGO, July-Aug., 1979, pp. 14, 50). ISAIAH 2:2-3, “And it shall come to pass in the latter days, that the mountain of Jehovah's house shall be established on the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it. 3 And many peoples shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of Jehovah, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of Jehovah from Jerusalem” (ASV). THE TRUE CHURCH WAS ESTABLISHED IN JERUSALEM ON PENTECOST DAY (ACTS 2)!
Day of Pentecost—50th day from the day Jesus was resurrected from the dead (ACTS 2:1). They waited in the upper chamber of a house in the city of Jerusalem (ACTS 1:12-14). They were filled and guided by the Spirit (ACTS 2:2-4). They preached the word of the Lord and the law of salvation (ACTS 2:37-38). Those who were saved were added to their number (ACTS 2:47). Those baptized were added to the one body (1 COR. 12:13; COL. 1:18; EPH. 5:23). They were the first church of Jesus (ACTS 8:1). When did this happen? 33 AD, based on our history. 9/17/2018

3. FELIX MANALO THE HEAD OF THE IGLESIA NI CRISTO-1914. “The present head of this church is Bishop Felix Manalo…” (Encyclopedia of the Philippines, vol. xix, pp ). In 1953, Felix Manalo and his ministers appointed Erano his son to be the head of the INC-1914, the position Erano assumed when Felix died in This year 2009, after Erano’s death, his son Eduardo Manalo took over the helm of the church that his grandfather had founded. “Because there were no precursors to the registered church, external sources and critics of the Iglesia ni Cristo refer to him as the founder of the Iglesia ni Cristo and describe him as such.” The heads of the INC-1914 are all Manalos: Felix, Erano, Eduardo. 9/17/2018

CHRIST IS THE HEAD OF HIS CHURCH!
EPHESIANS 5:23, “For the husband is the head of the wife, and Christ also is the head of the church, being himself the saviour of the body” (ASV). ‘οτι ανηρ εστιν κεφαλη της γυναικος ‘ως και ‘ο χριστος κεφαλη της εκκλησιας αυτος σωτηρ του σωματος (Wescott-Hort). Literal translation: “Because a man is the head of the woman, as also Christ [is] the head of the church, [being] himself [the] saviour of the body.” 9/17/2018

EPHESIANS 1:22-23, “ And he put all things in subjection under his feet, and gave him to be head over all things to the church, 23 which is his body, the fullness of him that filleth all in all” (ASV). και παντα ‘υπεταξεν ‘υπο τους ποδας αυτου και αυτον εδωκεν κεφαλην ‘υπερ παντα τη εκκλησια 23 ‘ητις εστιν το σωμα αυτου το πληρωμα του τα παντα εν πασιν πληρουμενου (Wescott-Hort). Literal translation: “And all things [he] subjected under the feet of him, and gave him to be head over all things to the church, which is the body of him, the fullness of him filling all things with all things.” 9/17/2018

COLOSSIANS 1:18, “And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence” (ASV). και αυτος εστιν ‘η κεφαλη του σωματος της εκκλησιας ‘ος εστιν [η] αρχη πρωτοτοκος εκ των νεκρων ‘ινα γενηται εν πασιν αυτος πρωτευων (Wescott-Hort). Literal translation): “And he is the head of the body, of the church: who is [the] beginning, the firstborn from out of the dead, in order that in all things he may be holding the first place.” The κεφαλη, kephale, head, metaphorically speaking, is one who does the executive duty of administering the system, the organization, providing authority or direction (cf. Vine’s, 202, see “Head”). Paul says Christ is THE head; definite article appears both in Greek and in English. 9/17/2018

4. THEY SAY THE ORIGINAL CHURCH TOTALLY APOSTATIZED. Their PASUGO says: “The church of Christ shall not be spared. Others shall be killed and many disciples shall be drawn away to follow false teachings. The fulfillment of this prophetic warning by Christ and Paul resulted in the complete disappearance of the church of Christ, that is, there remained no faithful members” (PASUGO, May-June 1981, p. 4; Nov.-Dec., 1980, p. 5). 9/17/2018

THE GATES OF HADES SHALL NOT PREVAIL AGAINST THE CHURCH
MATTHEW 16:18, “And I also say unto thee, that thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it” (ASV). καγω δε σοι λεγω οτι συ ει πετρος και επι ταυτη τη πετρα οικοδομησω μου την εκκλησιαν και πυλαι ‘αδου ου κατισχυσουσιν αυτης (Wescott-Hort). Literal translation: “And also to you I say, that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build the church of me, and [the] gates of Hades will not prevail against it.” 9/17/2018

THE GATES OF HADES SHALL NOT PREVAIL AGAINST THE CHURCH
“Hades was the name of the abode of the dead. Its gate symbolized its power because the military forces of an ancient city always sallied forth from its gates” (J. W. McGarvey, Four-Fold Gospel). “Death shall neither destroy the organic church which is in the world, nor the members thereof which go down into the grave (I Thess. 4:15; I Cor. 15:54–56)” (Ibid.). “Will not prevail against it,” ου κατισχυσουσιν αυτης, ou katischusousin autes. The verb κατισχυσουσιν is future indicative active of katischu’o, “to overpower, to have strength against, to gain mastery over” (Rogers & Rogers, 37). Death has no power over the church, so says the owner and builder of it. 9/17/2018

IT IS A KINGDOM THAT IS ETERNAL, SHALL STAND FOREVER
DANIEL 2:44, “And in the days of those kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom which shall never be destroyed, nor shall the sovereignty thereof be left to another people; but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever.” “Shall never be destroyed,” meaning “it shall be indestructible.” “Of the increase of Christ's government and peace there shall be no end. The Lord shall reign, not only to the end of time, but when time and days shall be no more. As far as events have gone, the fulfilling this prophetic vision has been most exact and undeniable” (Matthew Henry Concise Commentary). 9/17/2018

CHRISTIANS TRANSLATED INTO THAT KINGDOM
COLOSSIANS 1:13, “Who delivered us out of the power of darkness, and translated us into the kingdom of the Son of his love” (ASV). “Delivered,” ερρυσατο, errusato, is aorist indicative middle, meaning “to rescue, to deliver” (Rogers & Rogers, 460). “Deliverance” is a theological term for salvation. The indicative middle speaks of Father’s direct involvement in man’s salvation: “He himself delivered us.” “Transferred,” μετεστησεν, metestesen, is aorist indicative active, meaning “to remove from one place to another, to transfer” (Rogers & Rogers, ibid.). This verb implies that the kingdom was existing back then. 9/17/2018

IT IS A KINGDOM THAT IS UNMOVABLE, UNSHAKEABLE
HEBREWS 12:28, “Wherefore, receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us have grace” (ASV). The kingdom is characterized to be “unshakeable,” ασαλευτον, asaleuton, “not able to be shaken, unshakeable” (Rogers & Rogers, 549); “cannot be moved, permanent, unchanging, never to pass away” (Barnes’ Notes on the NT). “Receiving,” παραλαμβανοντες, paralamba’nontes, is present active participle the infinitive of which means “to receive” (Rogers & Rogers, 549). The present tense speaks of an on-going action of receiving the kingdom. 9/17/2018

SOME, NOT ALL, WOULD FALL AWAY FROM THE FAITH!
1 TIMOTHY 4:1, “But the Spirit saith expressly, that in later times some shall fall away from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits and doctrines of demons” (ASV). το δε πνευμα ρητως λεγει οτι εν υστεροις καιροις αποστησονται τινες της πιστεως προσεχοντες πνευμασιν πλανοις και διδασκαλιαις δαιμονιων (Wescott-Hort). GOD’S MESSENGERS: WHO WERE THEY?
VERSE 1: God spoke to the fathers by the OT prophets. God “spoke,” λαλησας, lalesas, aorist active participle, showing this to be a finished, unrepeated action in the past (Rogers & Rogers, 516). God spoke “to the fathers,” τοις πατρασιν, tois patrasin, meaning the fathers of the Jews. God spoke “in old times,” παλαι, palai, “formerly” (remember “paleontology,” the science of ancient life?). God spoke “by the prophets,” τοις προφηταις, tois prophetais, inspired men who were His spokesmen. God spoke to them “in divers portions” (πολυμερως, polumeros, “many portions”), “and in divers ways” (πολυτροπως, polutropos, many ways). Poly means many, as in polygon, a figure with many sides. JESUS IS GOD’S LAST MESSENGER!
VERSE 2: God spoke to us now by His Son. God “spoke to us,” ελαλησεν ημιν, elalesen hemin, aorist indicative active. The aorist indicates a past act, the active voice shows God did the speaking, and the indicative shows that past act was a fact. It is a fact that God, having spoken to the fathers, also spoke to us! Furthermore, the aorist in both cases showed that God has finished speaking! There is no room here for new revelations, and the better this truth is stamped into the brains of the ignorant, the better it would be for their souls! God spoke to us “in these last days,” επ εσχατου των ‘ημερων τουτων, ep eschatou ton hemeron touton, “in the last of these days,” a rabbinic phrase indicating the time of the Messiah (Rogers & Rogers, 516). WHY JESUS HIS SON? εν ‘υιω, “in one who is a Son.” “The absence of article fixes attention upon the nature and not upon the personality of the mediator of a new revelation. God spoke to us in one who has this character—that He is Son” (Rogers & Rogers, 516). This “Son” is the one whom God “appointed heir of all things,” ον εθηκεν κληρονομον παντων, on etheken kleronomon panton. The word κληρονομον, kleronomon, “heir,” “had been used for dividing property that a father left to his children when he died. Only one son meant only one heir.” Christians will inherit heaven and eternal life; but Christ is the heir of all things! WHY JESUS HIS SON? This “Son” is one through whom indeed God “made the ages,” εποιησεν τους αιωνας, epoiesen tous aionas. According to rabbinical usage, “ages,” αιωνας, refers to periods of time as well as content of the world (Rogers & Rogers, 516). The “Son” is one “who is the radiance of his glory,” ‘ος ων απαυγασμα της δοξης, hos on apaugasma tes doxes. The word απαυγασμα, apaugasma, radiance, effulgence, “has the active meaning of emitting brightness” (Rogers and Rogers, 516). Jesus radiates the glory of the great God. The “Son” is one who is the χαρακτηρ της ‘υποστασεως αυτου, charakter tes hupostaseos autou, “the image” or “the representation of his reality” (cf. John 14:8-11). The noun ‘υποστασεως, hupostaseos, means “essence, substance, nature, reality” (Rogers & Rogers, 516). Christ is the exact representation of God’s substance! 9/17/2018

The “Son” is the one who “bears all things by the word of his power,” φερων τε τα παντα τω ρηματι της δυναμεως αυτου, pheron te ta panta to rhemati tes dunameos autou; by the word of his power, he carries all things forward on their appointed course (Rogers & Rogers, 516). The “Son” is the one who had just cleansed his people of their sins, καθαρισμον των ‘αμαρτιων ποιησαμενος, katharismon ton hamartion poiesamenos, “having made the cleansing of sins.” ποιησαμενος, “having made,” aorist middle participle, shows that Christ himself (both the Godhead and the humanity in Him) did the cleansing (Rogers & Rogers, 516)! The “Son” now “sat down on the right hand of the majesty in the high places,” in the heavens, εκαθισεν εν δεξια της μεγαλωσυνης εν ‘υψηλοις, ekathisen en dexia tes megalosunes en hupsilois. εκαθισεν is aorist indicative active the infinitive of which means “to sit down, to take one’s seat,” indicating that his work is finished. εν δεξια, with the preposition εν indicating a locative sense, “in the right hand.” Right hand signifies a favored place. We know for a fact that he is now sitting in the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens (Hebrews 8:1). (1) Cyrus was called so “on account of the rapidity of his marches from the distant regions of Persia to pounce on his prey (see on Isa. 41:2; 41:25; Jer. 49:22; Ezek. 17:3)” (Jamieson-Fausset-Brown Bible Commentary). “In foretelling God’s judgments upon Babylon, Isaiah 46:11 refers to Cyrus as a ravenous bird from the far east, the man of my counsel from a far country” (International Standard Bible Encyclopedia, vol. 1, p. 477). “Bird” is “an allusion to the fact that griffin was the emblem of Persia, and embroidered on its standard” (Ibid.). Neither Felix Manalo nor the INC-1914 is alluded to or mentioned by name in Isaiah 46:11. “A ravenous bird from the east” is also the same as “the man of my counsel from a far country,” descriptive phrases that both referred to Cyrus. The east and the far country referred to is Persia, not the Philippines. “Far country” had once been applied to Babylon. See ISAIAH 39:3. Persia, Cyrus’ domain, is even much farther than Babylon (now Iraq). The setting of this prophecy was Jerusalem, where Isaiah prophesied. (10) Where did Manalo get his authority? For two days and three nights he closeted himself in Mr. Sunga’s room, eating nothing, drinking nothing. After that closet experience he’s telling us now he had met God and that he had been appointed as the messenger in these last days? (11) If the INC-1914 asks you, “If Felix Manalo is not the fifth angel of Revelation 7:2-3, then who is it?” My answer: “I am not duty-bound to tell anyone who is it. 9. FELIX MANALO IS “JACOB” AND THE INC-1914 IS “ISRAEL” (ISAIAH 43:1-6; 41:14; 41:8-10)? “The last messenger of God– the leader of the last generation called by God– is called Jacob, and the Church of Christ in these last days is called Israel, to show the relation to Jacob and Israel, the seed of Abraham in the flesh. The last messenger and the Church of Christ are the Jacob and Israel—the seed of Abraham—from the ends of the earth” (PASUGO, Nov.-Dec., 1980, p. 10). “Ang Jacob na sinasabi sa Isaias 41:8-10 ay hindi tumutukoy kay Jacob na anak ni Isaac. Ang Jacob na ito’y ang lumitaw sa Pilipinas sa panahon ng digmaang pangsanglibutan noong 1914, samakatuwid baga’y si kapatid na Felix Manalo (PASUGO, Agosto, 1971, p. 23, 27). My translation: “The Jacob that is mentioned in Isaiah 41:8-10 is not referring to Jacob the son of Isaac. THE REAL JACOB AND THE REAL ISRAEL: (1) Jacob is the son of Isaac and Esau’s twin brother (Genesis 25:25-26). (2) The name Jacob later was changed to “Israel” (Genesis 32:28). (3) The descendants of Jacob in the flesh were called “Israel.” “And what one nation in the earth is like thy people, even like Israel, whom God went to redeem unto himself for a people, and to make him a name, and to do great things for you, and terrible things for thy land, before thy people, whom thou redeemest to thee out of Egypt, from the nations and their gods? ISAIAH 43 (1) The INC-1914 uses only verses 1 to 6 of this chapter as their proof text, to the neglect of the context of the whole chapter and the intent and purpose of the prophecy. In our quest to understand what God meant, we need too to consider prophetic language, the figures the prophet uses, his syntax, even his grammar. (2) Traditional dates for Isaiah’s ministry are ca BC. (Unger, Merrill F., Unger’s Bible Handbook, p. 306). The book expresses God’s concern for His people. Figures or personae relevant to this thesis are mentioned only because they are God’s agents for disciplining His people and for restoring them back to Him. I insist: They are mentioned. Therefore there is no room for making any mistake in identification. The problem with the INC-1914 interpretation is that it inserts figures that are not mentioned or irrelevant to the texts (“Felix Manalo,” “Philippines,” their Iglesia, etc.)! Such is the way of the ignorant who twist the Scriptures! 9/17/2018

ISAIAH 43 (3) Isaiah is one prophet who fondly uses parallelism. In grammar, that simply means the use of equivalent or identical syntactical constructions in corresponding clauses or phrases. For example, verse 1: (a) “Jehovah who created thee, O Jacob” (b) “He that formed thee, O Israel.” We know that “he” in the second syntactical clause refers to “Jehovah” in the first clause; that “created” is the same as “formed”; and that “Jacob” is also “Israel.” In this pair of parallelism, God shows how he values Israel; it was He who formed or created them as a nation. To insist that “Jacob” is a separate entity from “Israel” is to show ignorance of the language and intent of the prophet! 9/17/2018

ISAIAH 43 (4) Another set of parallels, used in a contrasting way, is verse 5: “I will bring thy seed from the east” which parallels “I gather thee from the west.” In verse 6, “I will say to the north, Give up” is parallel to “[I will say to] the south, Keep not back.” These two pairs of parallels all express one thought: God will restore His people to His land, calling them from all four directions of the world. (5) It seems to me that the clause “I will bring thy seed from the east” (v. 5) does not help the INC-1914 cause at all! If the “east,” based on their notion, is the Philippines, the text teaches that the INC people will leave the Philippines and be gathered to the land of Palestine! For this is what vv. 5-6 teach! The text really applies to Israelites who were scattered because of their captivities (722 BC under Assyria; 606 BC under Babylon), and would be restored, coming from all corners of the earth. 9/17/2018

ISAIAH 43 ISAIAH 11:11-12, And it shall come to pass in that day, that the Lord will set his hand again the second time to recover the remnant of his people, that shall remain, from Assyria, and from Egypt, and from Pathros, and from Cush, and from Elam, and from Shinar, and from Hamath, and from the islands of the sea. 12 And he will set up an ensign for the nations, and will assemble the outcasts of Israel, and gather together the dispersed of Judah from the four corners of the earth” (ASV). (6) God foretells the destruction of Babylon (43:14, ). He identifies them as “Chaldeans,” so there would be no mistaking what he meant: Babylon is in the land of the Chaldeans; its king is also called king of the Chaldeans. He “will bring them down like a sinking ship.” They will be like “fugitives” because they will be in panic when their end comes; “ships of their rejoicing” is an interesting figure—the night when Babylon’s reign as a kingdom ended, they were in a drunken revelry! ISAIAH 41 (1) Verse 8-10 and 14 are the INC-1914 proof texts. But in our analysis of this prophetic writing, we consider the whole context. (2) The subject of this prophecy is the people of God, and mention is made of one whom God “raised from the east” (41:2), in his role as the liberator of God’s people from their captivity. We know that from scripture and history to be Cyrus the Great of Persia. The one whom God “raised from the east” is also the one “to whom he giveth nations before him and maketh him rule over kings” (41:2). This is simply referring to a political figure, and Cyrus fits the description. (3) If the INC-1914 insists that “east” is literal, then “giveth nations before him” and “maketh him rule over kings” are also literal. Both figures don’t refer to Felix Manalo nor to the church he had founded. These were all fulfilled in Cyrus of Persia. 9/17/2018

ISAIAH 24 We know that Isaiah prophesied around BC (Unger’s Bible Handbook, p. 306). From chapter 1 to chapter 66, it has a single purpose, a single theme that runs through the whole book. In it God pronounces His dirges and His ways to impose His judgments on the evils of the land, making use of the world rulers to discipline His people for their waywardness. It is one discipline that would guarantee they would get back to their senses. Their captivity by Assyria in 722 BC, then by Babylon in 606, would burn their souls to the core, and make them renounce idolatry. From that purgation would emerge a remnant. That remnant is exhorted to “glorify Jehovah in the east, in the isles of the sea” (24:15a). See Isaiah 11:11, below. ISAIAH 24 The book mentions Cyrus in relation to his role in the restoration of Israel to their land. He allowed the building of their walls and encouraged them to rebuild their temple. This set of events happened during his reign that ended in 530 BC (cf. Esdras 1:1-4). The remnant is exhorted to glorify Jehovah in the east. These people, those who return to Him after their Babylonian and Assyrian purgative experiences, are the ones referred to in Isaiah prophecy, and therefore the “east” could mean their homeland. Palestine, the land of the Jews, is in the east. Separated from the context of Isaiah’s book, “east” could mean “the far east” (and we know of 20 or more countries that consist the “far east”!), the “middle east” and the “near east.” These distinctions are just arbitrary, made to facilitate understanding in language. 9/17/2018

ISAIAH 24 “The isles of the sea” has been translated “the coastlands of the sea” (English Standard Version), “the sea-lands” (Bible in Basic English), “isles of the west” (Darby), “coastlands” (God’s Word), “isles of the sea” (KJV), “las islas del mar” (Sagradas Escrituras), “insulis maris” (Latin Vulgate), “isles of the sea” (Young), “coastlands of the sea” (RSV). The ASV, KJV, Sagradas Escrituras, the Latin Vulgate, and Young all agree. Divers opinions on how the phrase should be translated however persist even to this day. One thing however is sure: It does not mean the Philippines! The phrase is so general it could refer to any dot in any ocean! ISAIAH 11:11, And it shall come to pass in that day, that the Lord will set his hand again the second time to recover the remnant of his people, that shall remain, from Assyria, and from Egypt, and from Pathros, and from Cush, and from Elam, and from Shinar, and from Hamath, and from the islands of the sea” (ASV). In short, the prophecy of Isaiah 24:15 has already been fulfilled. To insist that it has been fulfilled again, this time in Felix Manalo, in his church, in the Philippines, in 1914, is ignorance in the highest degree! 9/17/2018

11. IS SALVATION ONLY IN THE IGLESIA NI CRISTO-1914? Their PASUGO says the INC-1914 is the true religion: “He [Felix Manalo] closed himself in his room… did not emerge until two days and three nights later, within which period he painstakingly assayed the different tenets of different religions in the light of the teachings of the Bible. And that which was vague and obscure to him became crystal clear. He gained the insight that religion or man’s way back to God must be fully in accordance with the will of God contained in the Bible, and that he was being sent to preach the true religion so that God may bring near His righteousness to many these last days” (PASUGO, July-Aug., 1979, p. 20). THEIR REASONING They are the true church because they have the “sugo.” If you don’t have it, you’re fake. The man to whom God alone revealed His will in these last days is said to have fulfilled both the Old and New Testament prophecies. He is God’s instrument for preaching the true church, “sent to preach the true religion so that God may bring near His righteousness to many these last days” (PASUGO, July-Aug., 1979, p. 20). He was appointed by God to do the sealing on their foreheads, meaning giving them the Holy Spirit. Thus, anyone who is outside of the INC-1914, being in a church not having the “sugo,” is not saved. 9/17/2018

INC-1914 IS NOT THE BODY OF THE SAVED!
It was founded by man, at the wrong place, and at the wrong time. “Que los fundadores de esta asosacion son: Felix Manalo, domiciliado en Taguig, Rizal, I.F.; Pedro Inocencio, Atanacio Morte, Felicisimo R. de Leon…” (Articles of Incorporation of the INC). “In 1914, a young Filipino by the name of Felix Manalo, 28, married, began preaching the Church of Christ in a place called Sitio of Punta in the district of Sta. Ana in the city of Manila, Philippines” (PASUGO, July-Aug., 1979, pp. 14, 50) Its messenger is of doubtful authority. No church can save; therefore the INC-1914 can neither save its members. Who then is the INC-1914’s saviour? It cannot be Jesus, since they are not the body of Jesus! It cannot be Felix, or Erano, or Eduardo, since none of them qualifies. In short, this church that claims to be the true church has been without a saviour since the time it was founded in 1914! 9/17/2018

THEIR USE OF THE NAME “CHURCH OF CHRIST”
Manalo and his group are fond of quoting Romans 16:16. That verse says: “Salute one another with a holy kiss. All the churches of Christ salute you” (ASV). The Book of Romans has been ascribed to Paul and was written about AD 57 (Unger’s Bible Handbook, p. 606). Now the question to ask the INC-1914 people is: “Which church of Christ are you—the church that does the saluting, or the church that is being saluted?” The passage actually does not refer to them, since they only came into the scene in 1914! 9/17/2018

BIBLE DOES NOT TEACH THAT THE CHURCH IS SAVIOR!
CHRIST IS THE SAVIOUR. “For the husband is the head of the wife, and Christ also is the head of the church, being himself the saviour of the body” (EPHESIANS 5:23, ASV). οτι ανηρ εστιν κεφαλη της γυναικος ως και ο χριστος κεφαλη της εκκλησιας αυτος σωτηρ του σωματος (Wescott-Hort). THE CHURCH OF JESUS IS THE BODY OF THE SAVED, BUT NOT EVERYONE IN IT WILL BE SAVED IN THE LAST DAY
In the kingdom of heaven, there is the good and the bad. “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a net, that was cast into the sea, and gathered of every kind: 48 which, when it was filled, they drew up on the beach; and they sat down, and gathered the good into vessels, but the bad they cast away. 49 So shall it be in the end of the world: the angels shall come forth, and sever the wicked from among the righteous” (MATT. 13:47-49, ASV). In the house of God there are honorable vessels and dishonorable ones: “Now in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some unto honor, and some unto dishonor. 21 If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honor, sanctified, meet for the master's use, prepared unto every good work” (2 TIM. 2:20, ASV). 9/17/2018

THE YEAR 1914 WAS THE “ENDS OF THE EARTH”? “Brother Felix Manalo began his propagation of the gospel way back in The Church of Christ was duly registered with the Philippine government on July 27th, 1914, concurrent with the First World War, the beginning of the ends of the earth” (PASUGO, Nov.-Dec., 1980, pp. 5, 10; cf. Sept.-Oct., 1980, p. 8). “The fulfillment of the last group is the Church of Christ in the Philippines which was registered with the Philippine government on July 27, 1914, which in biblical terms means the ends of the earth” (PASUGO, Mar.-Apr., 1981, p. 3). 9/17/2018

THEIR MISINTERPRETATIONS CONCERNING THE “ENDS OF THE EARTH”
(1) “Felix Manalo began his propagation of the gospel way back in 1914,” which to them is the “ends of the earth” (PASUGO, Nov.-Dec., 1980, pp. 5, 10)? He started preaching even before 1914, as a Methodist, as a Presbyterian, as a preacher of the Church of Christ, and as a Seventh-Day Adventist. What kind of gospel was Manalo preaching back then? If the INC-1914 say it was a false gospel, then they have to admit this fact: That Manalo too used to preach a false gospel! Now the question: How sure are they that Manalo and the INC-1914 are teaching them the true gospel now? (2) The registration of their church on July 27th, 1914 is concurrent with the First World War? What do they mean by “concurrent”? The war did not break out until August 7, 1914, in Africa! By their own reasoning, August 7, not July 27, is the “ends of the earth”! (3) What is the true meaning of the “ends of the earth”? Is it the year 1914? Is it July 27, 1914? Is it the First World War? Is it their being registered as a group? From the quotation we have gleaned from their Pasugo, the phrase “ends of the earth” means the First World War (PASUGO, Nov.-Dec., 1980, pp. 5, 10), and then it means July 27, 1914 (PASUGO, Mar.-Apr., 1981, p. 3). Thus it is an event, and consequently it is time. That’s INC-1914 interpretation. (4) The International Standard Bible Encyclopedia says “ends of the earth” means “the corners of the earth.” “The corners or ends of the earth are its wings, i.e. its borders or extremities…It also means coasts or boundaries of the land surface of the earth; its extremities. It is translated ‘corners’ in Isa. 11:12; ‘end’ in Job 37:3 and in 38:13.” (International Standard Bible Encyclopedia, vol. 2, p. 887). 9/17/2018

(5) The “ends of the earth” does not mean “ends of the ages,” neither First World War nor the Second! Consider the following: The queen of Sheba came from the “ends of the earth” (Matthew 12:42). The Greek text says, ηλθεν εκ των περατων της γης, elthen ek ton peraton tes ges, “she came out of the limits of the earth” (Alfred Marshall), or “the end, the border” of the earth (Rogers & Rogers, 28). περατων της γης is translated “ends of the earth” (Bible in Basic English, Darby’s, Centenary Translation, English Standard Version, God’s Word, Weymouth, Young), “uttermost parts of the earth” (KJV, Wesley’s NT), “remote parts of the earth” (Mace NT), “fines de la tierra” (Sagradas Escrituras), “finnibus terrae” (Latin Vulgate). “Fines” or “finnibus” means “end.” περατων της γης is actually a geographical term and has no reference to time or event! 9/17/2018

13. THE IGLESIA NI CRISTO-1914 THE PEOPLE AFAR OFF (ACTS 2:38-39)? They believe Felix Manalo to be “God’s instrument in the reemergence of the Church of Christ in the Philippines, the third group of people promised to receive the Holy Spirit” (PASUGO, March-April, 1981, p. 21). They got their concept of three groups of people from Acts 2:39. “For to you is the promise, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call unto him” (ASV). The people “afar off” are the Filipinos, so they say. 9/17/2018

ACTS 2:38-39 ACTS 2:39. “For to you is the promise, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call unto him” (ASV). υμιν γαρ εστιν η επαγγελια και τοις τεκνοις υμων και πασιν τοις εις μακραν οσους αν προσκαλεσηται κυριος ο θεος ημων (Wescott-Hort). Literal translation: “For to you is the promise and to the children of you, and to all the ones [who are] far away as many as may call to [him] the Lord God of us.” The phrase και πασιν τοις εις μακραν, kai pasin tois makran, is rendered “and to all the ones far away” (Alfred Marshall’s). The word πασιν means “all,” and τοις εις μακραν, “the ones [who are] far away,” is the phrase describing this group of people— “all those who are afar off.” 9/17/2018

GENTILES THE PEOPLE WHO ARE “AFAR OFF” ACTS 2:38-39; 10:1-5; 11:14
μακραν, “afar off, far away,” feminine form of μακρος, is used in the following senses (Vine’s, 77): (1) literally (Mathew 8:30; Luke 7:6; 15:20; John 21:8; Acts 17:27); and (2) metaphorically (Mark 12:34; Acts 2:39; Ephesians 2:13, 17). The extension of God’s promise to those “afar off” (Acts 2:39) came to be fulfilled when the gospel was preached to the Gentiles. The first instance that grace came down from heaven to a non-Jew was when God caused a reverent, alms-giving, ever-praying Italian, head of a legion of the Roman army, to find a preacher (Acts 10:1-5), “who shall speak unto thee words, whereby thou shalt be saved, thou and all thy house” (Acts 11:14, ASV). 9/17/2018

GENTILES THE PEOPLE WHO ARE “AFAR OFF” EPHESIANS 2:11-13
“Wherefore remember, that once ye, the Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called Circumcision, in the flesh, made by hands; 12 that ye were at that time separate from Christ, alienated from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of the promise, having no hope and without God in the world. 13 But now in Christ Jesus ye that once were far off are made nigh in the blood of Christ” (Eph 2:11-13, ASV). (1) They were “Gentiles in the flesh,” 2:11a), τα εθνη εν σαρκι, ta ethne en sarki, suggesting the external and temporal nature of their distinction from the Jews. They were not a privileged people, unlike the Jews. “In the flesh” could also mean they were “under the dominion of the flesh.” (2) They were belittled because of their lack of outward Abrahamic sign (2:11b), λεγομενοι ακροβυστια ‘υπο της λεγομενης περιτομης, legomenoi akrobustia hupo tes legomenes peritomes, “being called uncircumcision by those being called circumcision.” “Uncircumcision” was a term of reproach. 9/17/2018

(3) They “were at that time separate from Christ” (2:12a), ητε τω καιρω εκεινω χωρις χριστου, ete to kairo ekeino choris Christou, literally, “you were at that time without Christ.” They had no knowledge of a Saviour, knew no atonement for sin, had no assurance of pardon, no well-founded hope of eternal life, and were in a state of condemnation and spiritual darkness in which only the knowledge of Christ could release them. (4) They “were alienated from the commonwealth of Israel” (2:12b). απηλλοτριωμενοι, apellotriomenoi, “alienated, estranged, separated,” perfect passive participle, the perfect tense showing their state or condition while they remained without Christ. The commonwealth of Israel, της πολιτειας του ισραηλ, tes politeias tou Israel, indicates the Israel framed by God in which polity and religion were joined. 9/17/2018

(5) They “were strangers from the covenants of the promise” (2:12c), ξενοι των διαθηκων της επαγγελιας ελπιδα, xenoi ton diathekon tes epangelias elpida. They did not belong to the covenants in which spiritual privileges and promises were enjoyed. (6) They had “no hope” and “were without God in the world” (2:12d). They were without any proper ground of hope and were without God, αθεοι, basically the same word for “atheists”! (7) But now in Christ Jesus, they “that once were far off,” μακραν, were “made nigh in the blood of Christ” (2:13a). This “means that they were formerly far off from God and his people. The expression is derived from the custom of speaking among the Hebrews… Those who were remote from Jerusalem and the temple were regarded as far off from God, and hence as peculiarly irreligious and wicked, Isaiah 57:19” (Barnes’ Notes on the New Testament). 9/17/2018

JOHN 10:16, “And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice: and they shall become one flock, one shepherd” (ASV). και αλλα προβατα εχω α ουκ εστιν εκ της αυλης ταυτης κακεινα δει με αγαγειν και της φωνης μου ακουσουσιν και γενησονται μια ποιμνη εις ποιμην (Wescott-Hort). Literal translation: “And the other sheep I have which are not of fold this’ those also it behooves me to bring, and the voice of me they will hear, and there will become one flock, one shepherd.” At the time Christ was speaking, the Gentiles were still out of the fold. The commission he sent was limited to the Jews and did not yet include the non-Jews (Matthew 10:5-6). IS THE INC-1914 THE “OTHER SHEEP” OF JESUS? NO!
JOHN 10:16, “And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice: and they shall become one flock, one shepherd” (ASV). (1) The other sheep, Christ says, he must also bring. It was not Jesus who brought the “iglesia” members to the INC-1914; it was Felix Manalo! (2) These other sheep, Christ says, shall hear His voice; the INC-1914 hears no other voice except the voice of Manalo! (3) These other sheep, Christ says, shall be one with his flock. His flock he had gathered in the first century through the preaching of the gospel of his death, burial and resurrection on that first Pentecost day, AD 33. Manalo and the INC-1914 are not a part of this flock; they even have sought to replace it! (4) These other sheep, Christ says, shall be under him as the only shepherd. Manalo, not Christ, is even more honored today in the pulpits of the INC-1914, his name and his false teachings about Christ and God being proclaimed continually both in and out of their churches! 9/17/2018

EZEQUIEL 28:2 ANALYZED “Son of man, say unto the prince of Tyre, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Because thy heart is lifted up, and thou hast said, I am a god, I sit in the seat of God, in the midst of the seas; yet thou art man, and not God, though thou didst set thy heart as the heart of God.” THE PASSAGE ANALYZED: The word of the Lord again came to the prophet Ezekiel, and he was tasked with the mission to pronounce this dirge on the king of Tyre, the embodiment of the spirit of carnal pride that culminated on the Sidonian state’s feeling of self-sufficiency. This dirge is a prophetic warning against them before their fall. His problem is pride, great pride. 9/17/2018

EZEQUIEL 28:2 ANALYZED (1) The king’s heart is lifted up (v. 2a).
(2) He has said, “I am god” (v. 2b). The king at that time was Ithbaal II, a name that implies his close connection with Baal, the Phoenician god, whom he represents (Jamieson-Fausset-Brown’s Commentary). (3) He claims not only to be god but also sits in the seat of God (v. 2c). As God sits in his heavenly fort and exempt from all injury, he, the king, also sits in his impregnable stronghold. (4) He sits in the midst of the seas, and the stormiest elements could not control him (v. 2c). (5) Though he had set his heart as the heart of God, this dirge and warning would make him realize “that he is man and not God” (v. 2d). 9/17/2018

EZEKIEL 28:2 This verse is one of the many verses twisted by the INC-1914 to refute the teaching on the deity of Christ. This passage, first of all, does not speak about Jesus. (1) Unlike the King of Tyre, Jesus did not lift himself up with pride. (2) Jesus was not a man who sought to be like God, who presumed himself to be God, or a man who was made God; for he was already God before he became man! CHRIST IS LORD ACTS 2:36, “Let all the house of Israel therefore know assuredly, that God hath made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom ye crucified” (ASV). MADE, εποιησεν, epoiesen, aorist indicative active, means “to make, to appoint, to cause actually to become, [and is] used of a holder of an official position” (Rogers & Rogers, 233). Notice the double accusative: κυριον και χριστον. “God had appointed Him both Lord and Messiah” (Ibid.). εποιησεν does not mean Jesus was “created” to be Lord and Messiah; he was caused to be raised to such positions! The term “Christ” means “anointed, chosen” (Vine’s, 59). In the ancient times, only three classes of people were anointed: the prophets (1 Kings 19:16), the priests (Exodus 28:41) and the kings (1 Samuel 10:1; 1 Kings 19:16). 9/17/2018

CHRIST IS LORD God appointed Jesus as Christ, making Him the Prophet through which He communicated with man today (Hebrews 1:2), as King over His Kingdom-Church (Colossians 1:13; Hebrews 8:1; 1 Corinthians 15:24-25), and as High Priest over the House of God (Hebrews 7:24-27; 8:24). He made Him Lord, with authority over all, in heaven and on earth (Mathew 28:18). Acts 2 teaches that Jesus was simply raised, resurrected from the dead, to fulfill what God had pledged long ago to David. Notice verse 30: God had sworn to David, prophet and king, that He would set one of David’s sons upon David’s throne. Christ was raised for just that purpose (verse 31). God resurrected Him from the dead (v. 32), raising Him up to reign, even over his enemies (vv ). AS King, Christ now sits on God’s right hand (vv ), the right hand of the throne of the Majesty on high (Hebrews 8:1). 9/17/2018

CHRIST IS LORD God made Jesus “Lord” and “Christ” (Acts 2:36); God now spoke to us through Him (Hebrews 1:2). Both sentence constructions (εποιησεν, ελαλησεν) are aorist, final, finished, done. The Lordship of Christ (that is, His authority over all) and His Messiahship (that is, His being divinely anointed as king, prophet and high priest) are final and continuing, until the resurrection day. Because God made Him Lord and Christ, Jesus’ authority should accepted by everyone who seek to come to God. Men ought to listen to Him (Matthew 17:5; Hebrews 1:2)! He is the way, the truth and the life (John 14:6), and there is no other. Any ignorant man who attempts to twist this will of God in Christ, specifically by teaching falsehoods on the nature and work of Jesus, would reap what they have sown (2 Peter 3:15-16)! 9/17/2018

17. WORSHIP JESUS NOT BECAUSE HE IS GOD? “…The Christians worship Christ not because He is God but because it was the will of God. As it is written in Phil. 2:9-11” (PASUGO, Mar.-Apr., 1982, p. 26). 9/17/2018

WORSHIP JESUS, THE GOD WHO BECAME MAN
Based on their teachings, the INC-1914 believes Christ is just a mere human being. Thus, if they are worshipping Him as such, their practices are contrary to the principles laid down by the Word! Men are not to worship angels (Revelation 22:8, 9), and neither are they to worship men (Acts 10:25, 26)! Christ, quoting an OT scripture, says, “Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve” (Matthew 4:10). Christ is indeed God and He deserves worship. God ordered the angels to worship His Son! “And let all the angels of God worship him” (Hebrews 1:6, ASV). This clause, προσκυνησατωσαν αυτω παντες αγγελοι θεου, proskunesatosan auto pantes angeloi theou, means “Let all God’s angels worship Him.” προσκυνησατωσαν is aorist active imperative, the infinitive of which is defined “to worship, to fall on the knees before someone” (Rogers & Rogers, 517). So the angels were commanded to worship God’s Son, whom God also called “God” (Hebrews 1:8)! Why wouldn’t the “angel” of the INC-1914 and his cohorts do the same? God exhorted all under heaven and on earth to pay homage to His Son, whom He has anointed to be their Saviour (Philippians 2:9-11) PHILIPPIANS 2:9-11, “Wherefore also God highly exalted him, and gave unto him the name which is above every name; 10 that in the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven and things on earth and things under the earth, 11 and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father” (ASV). (1) God highly exalted Jesus (2:9a). θεος αυτον ‘υπερυψωσεν, theos auton huperupsosen, “God highly exalted him.” The verb ‘υπερυψωσεν is aorist indicative active,”to exalt above and beyond,” giving the sense that God had proclaimed Jesus’ uniqueness and absoluteness, beyond all and above all! (2) God gave Jesus a name that is above every name (2:9b). There is no other “name under the heaven having been given among men by which it behooves us to be saved” (Acts 4:12). (3) In the name of Jesus all should bend their knees (2:10). εν τω ονοματι ιησου παν γονυ καμψη, en to onomati Iesou pan gonu kampse, “in the name of Jesus every knee should bow.” Christ is acknowledged as Lord by angelic forces; even malevolent demons are compelled to admit that He is the victor, and in every way they showed their fear and submission to Him! Those on earth and those under the earth are to bend their knees before Him. That is every knee; no exception! καμψη, kampse, “should bow,” is aorist subjunctive active. Those who have continually rebelled against Jesus’ authority may not realize it now, but the day will come when they, seeing Him seated on that throne (2 Cor. 5:10), will have to acknowledge their errors and sins! THE HOLY SPIRIT IS GOD! Acts 5:1-4, “But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession, 2 and kept back part of the price, his wife also being privy to it, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles' feet. 3 But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thy heart to lie to the Holy Spirit, and to keep back part of the price of the land? 4 While it remained, did it not remain thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thy power? How is it that thou hast conceived this thing in thy heart? thou has not lied unto men, but unto God” (ASV). (1) The couple lied against the Holy Spirit. “Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thy heart to lie to the Holy Spirit?” (5:3a). (2) They lied against the Spirit because of their greed. They kept “back part of the price of the land” (5:3b). (3) They had not lied to men. Peter said, “Thou has not lied unto men” (5:4b)! (3) They lied to God. Peter said, “Thou has lied unto God” (5:4c)! Syllogistically, the Spirit they lied to is God. 9/17/2018

THE HOLY SPIRIT IS GOD! (2) If the Holy Spirit were an impersonal force, if it were only a gust of wind, or a force such as electricity, as the Jehovah’s Witnesses and the INC-1914 wanted us to believe, would their lie be too serious? Men someday would answer for every deception they have proclaimed on the pulpit or out, but such acts would not merit an instant execution of the two sinners. But it is the Spirit they are lying to. Even Jesus knows the difference between blaspheming against Him and blaspheming against the Spirit; one is forgivable, the other is not (Matthew 12:30-32). (3) The Jehovah’s Witness and the INC-1914 would rationalize this thing by saying, “The couple lied against the God of heaven. The Spirit was just an impersonal force coming from God.” This sophistry however does not lessen the impact of Peter’s statement. He did not say they lied to God the Father, or to Jesus. He was specific: “Ananias, you lied to the Spirit; therefore you lied to God!” 9/17/2018

19. THE DOCTRINE OF THE TRINITY (THREE PERSON IN ONE GODHEAD) IS AN ERROR? “The doctrine of the Trinity is unscriptural” (PASUGO, Aug., 1971, p. 17). “The Trinity is one mystery no one understands. And how indeed could anyone understand the teaching that the three persons, each of which is the true God, are only one God? In other words, how could anyone understand that three equal to one?” (PASUGO, Mar.-Apr., 1982, p. 13). “The dogma of Trinity cannot be proved by reason” (PASUGO, Mar-Apr., 1982, p. 13). “To say that one plus one are equal to one is no better than saying two equals five. THE TRINITY: THREE IN UNITY
The word “Trinity,” combines the suffix “tri,” which means “three,” and the word “unity,” meaning “being one, being united.” The word “Trinity” is not in the Bible. But the word “Godhead” is. To avoid controversy, I refrain from using the term in my teaching and preaching. But the concept of the “Trinity,” that the Father is God, that the Son is God, and that the Spirit too is God, is taught in the Holy Scriptures. 9/17/2018

THE SON. “Looking for the blessed hope and appearing of the glory of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ” (Titus 2:13, ASV). UNITY ILLUSTRATED SPOUSES BECOME ONE FLESH. “Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh” (Genesis 2:24, ASV). “TEN GODS YOU HAVE”? The INC-1914, in an effort not to clash head on with your arguments on the deity of Christ, would start by putting you on the defensive, and confuse you or muddle the issues. INC: How many Gods do you have? YOU: One. For you to be able to understand, there is a “one” that is absolute. And there is another class of “one” that means more than one. For example, a husband and his wife can be one flesh (Gen. 2:24). He who plants and he who waters are one (1 Cor. 3:6, 8). The Father and the Son are one (John 10:30). INC: Father + Son + Holy Spirit = three. YOU: How many classes of “one” do you know? 9/17/2018

“TEN GODS YOU HAVE”? INC: There are already seven spirits of God, plus the three, that makes ten. So you have ten Gods YOU: You want to insist on that, ok, let’s grant it—on some conditions of course. INC: What’s that? YOU: First, you have to accept that the seven spirits of God are deity. Then accept too that both Christ and the Spirit are indeed deity. INC: It’s impossible. I won’t agree to it. YOU: Well, like you I neither agree and believe that I have ten Gods. Note: Our advice is for you to use the word “deity” and avoid the use of the word “trinity.” These men just want you to lose your cool, so don’t fall into their trap. Learn to be wise as serpents and harmless as doves. Remember there are more important issues to resolve than just arguing about whether the number of Gods is one, three, or ten. 9/17/2018

They are Christ’s enemies. ARE THEY WHO PROCLAIM THAT CHRIST IS BOTH MAN AND GOD THE ANTICHRISTS?
Proclaiming Christ’s deity does not make a preacher or a church an antichrist. It is not that the “Bible says differently”; it is what the Bible says truly. Christ is really God. Proclaiming Christ’s humanity does not make a preacher or a church an antichrist either. For Christ is indeed a real man But proclaiming that Christ is not God but only a man makes a church and its preachers antichrists. The INC must now give us just one verse that teaches Christ is man only, and another verse that says Christ is not God. We have been arguing with these people for so many years, and we will still be till judgment comes. We think it’s time they make good their words that they truly are invincible when it comes to argumentation! Come out with proofs! 9/17/2018

ORIGIN OF THE TERM “ANTICHRIST”
(1) αντιχριστος, ANTICHRISTOS, is a combination of the Greek preposition ANTI, “against,” and the Greek word “CHRISTOS,” meaning “anointed” (Vine’s, pp ). According to Vine, the antichrist is one who is “against Christ,” or “one who in the guise of Christ opposes Christ” (Ibid.). (2) Another source say αντιχριστος refers “either to one who comes instead of Christ or one who opposes Christ. The lack of the article stresses the category or the quality” of this enemy of Christendom (Rogers & Rogers, 594). (3) “The preposition anti originally meant ‘in the place’ of and then ‘against’” (Colin Brown, TIDNTT, vol. 1, p. 124). 9/17/2018

ORIGIN OF THE TERM “ANTICHRIST”
(4) “In the Johannine Epistles (1 John 2:18, 22f.; 4:3; 2 John 7) teachers of false doctrines are called antichrists. Both the singular and the plural are used in 1 John 2:18… No clear details are given of the doctrine…” (Colin Brown, ibid., p. 126). (5) “It is clear that they were claiming special fellowship with and love for God (cf. 1 John 1:5f.; 2:4f.; 5:1f.). But they denied that Jesus is the Christ and that he had become man (4:2f.)…” (Ibid., p. 126). (6) “The impression is also given that, convinced that they enjoyed special fellowship with God, they did not take sin very seriously (cf. 3:6ff.). Here the deception does not come from the outside but from inside the church. Members of the church become servants of the Antichrist. WHAT JOHN SAYS ABOUT THE ANTICHRIST 1 JOHN 4:1-3; 2 JOHN 7; 1 JOHN 2:18-19, 22
1 JOHN 4:1-3, “Beloved, believe not every spirit, but prove the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets are gone out into the world. 2 Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: 3 and every spirit that confesseth not Jesus is not of God: and this is the spirit of the antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it cometh; and now it is in the world already” (ASV). 2 JOHN 7, “For many deceivers are gone forth into the world, even they that confess not that Jesus Christ cometh in the flesh. This is the deceiver and the antichrist” (ASV). 1 JOHN 2:18-19, “Little children, it is the last hour: and as ye heard that antichrist cometh, even now have there arisen many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last hour. 19 They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they all are not of us” (ASV). 9/17/2018

1 JOHN 2:22, “Who is the liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? This is the antichrist, even he that denieth the Father and the Son” (ASV). (1) μη παντι πνευματι πιστευετε, me panti pneumati pisteuete, “not every spirit believe ye” (1 John 4:1). Some spirits you are to believe, to trust, but not everyone of them. (2) δοκιμαζετε τα πνευματα, prove the spirits, try them, put them to the tests (1 John 4:1). Prove “if they are of God,” ει εκ του θεου εστιν, literally, “if of God they are.” And there is an endearing reason for proving them: “because many false prophets are gone out into the world” (1 John 4:1). 9/17/2018

(3) Knowing the “spirit” of that prophet is also knowing “the Spirit of God,” (4:2). The spirit of that prophet makes a good confession: “Jesus Christ is come in the flesh” (4:2). Every spirit then who makes this confession is of God (4:2). (4) “Every spirit that confesseth not Jesus is not of God” (4:3). Apparently this means not confessing that Jesus has come in the flesh (4:2). The spirit who does not make this confession is not of God (4:3). This is the spirit of the false prophet (4:1). This too is the spirit of the antichrist (4:3). 9/17/2018

WHO IS THE ANTICHRIST? (1) The antichrist is a false teacher who does not by his mouth or by his life confess that Jesus has indeed come in the flesh. The belief in the deity of Christ was the capstone of early Christian religion. John called Jesus the “true God and eternal life” (1 John 5:20). Jesus the God who became man gave his life to purchase a church (Acts 20:28). Hence, accepting his deity but denying his humanity is one doctrine of the antichrist. The early version of the antichrists were the Docetists (2nd & 3rd centuries AD). The name for this heresy came to us from the medieval Latin “Docetae,” which was a carry-over from the patristic Greek “Doketai,” rooted from the infinitive dokein, “to seem, to appear.” The Docetists believed in the deity of Jesus but denied either his humanity, or his suffering. They claimed that he is not human, but that he only seems (“dokein”) to be. Their theological problem was how to reconcile the fact that a holy God could dwell in sinful flesh! WHO IS THE ANTICHRIST? The 4th century version of the antichrist were the Arians. Founded by a Libyan theologian named Arius, a student in the school of Lucian of Antioch. Ordained a priest in Alexandria, “Arius became involved (319) in a controversy with his bishop concerning the divinity of Christ,” and was “exiled (325) to Illyria because of his beliefs.” The “debate over his doctrine soon engulfed” the whole Western Church. To preserve the unity of the empire, Emperor Theodosius outlawed Arius and his followers. For two centuries Arianism survived “among the barbarian tribes that had been converted to Christianity by Arian bishops.” The modern versions of the antichrists are the Jehovah’s Witnesses and the INC While the Docetists accepted Christ’s deity but denied his humanity, the INC-1914 emphasizes his humanity to the exclusion of his deity. WHO IS THE ANTICHRIST? (2) The antichrist is a deceiver (2 John 7). Felix had joined the Church of Christ before he founded his own. Apparently he was convinced that the tenets of the restoration being promoted by the Church of Christ are sound and scriptural and copied some of these teachings. The INC also proclaims itself as the “restored” church, with the right name and right baptism. But the INC is just a copy cat, a deception, and a fraud. It deceives people by claiming to be the true church. (3) The antichrist denies the Father and the Son. The INC-1914 entices the seeker by using smooth words, and by putting up a façade of being holy. They proclaim their devotion to Scripture when in reality they deny its teachings. They don’t proclaim the real God and don’t preach the real Jesus. And by denying what the Bible plainly teaches, they also deny the authority of the Father and the Son. 9/17/2018

I am not able to give you all the information about Felix Manalo that you desire. He was a student in our mission and I was one of his teachers. We had him employed as our evangelist, paying him a salary. He was minister for the church at Singalong for some time. His wife accused him of cruelty and of adultery. “The church at Singalong had an investigation of Felix. The wife of Felix came and made complaints, but Felix did not come. The church at Singalong voted that Felix was guilty of the charges of his wife. As a consequence, we took away the salary that we were giving to Felix. Then Felix left us. “I do not have further personal knowledge of Felix. There was however a Teresa who studied with us. It was proven in court that Felix was the father of her child. “Brother Baronia has much typewritten information about Felix Manalo and especially about the Teresa case, which he says he will be glad to furnish to anyone desiring the information. “I hope you will be able to continue your work and that you will be successful.
