1 Job Interview Practice
ELL 3044

2 What are the top 10 job interview questions?
Tell me about yourself. Why should we hire you? What is your greatest strength? What is your greatest weakness? Why do you want to work here? Why did you leave your last job? What is your greatest accomplishment? Describe a difficult work situation and how you overcame it? Where do you see yourself in 5 years? Do you have any questions for me?

3 A. Interview Video. What does she say about body language?
Good eye contact Firm handshake Don’t talk too fast, lower your tone Good posture

4 More tips… Don’t fidget. Don’t slouch. Sit up straight!
Crossing your legs is okay in the West. Pretend the interviewers are old friends you haven’t seen in a long time. Practice questions and answers before the interview. Visualize the interview (how you think it will go). Know you’re valuable; this will give you more confidence. Remember that a bad interview does not mean you lost the job.

5 The class will be divided in half with half of the class will be interviewers / employers and half the class will be interviewees / employees. The employees will look for a job using their role play information sheet. Do NOT show anyone your role play information card. The employers will look for a proper employee using their role play information sheet. At the end, the employers will choose an employee who matches their needs. The employers must tell the class why they decided to choose that employee. Just like in real life there are no “perfect matches” for a job and employer but there are “better matches”. Employees, don’t forget to introduce yourself and shake hands so the employer knows your name. Don’t forget confident body language. Use the information from your role playing information sheet. Any information not given on your role playing information sheet you can make up.

6 Student X As an employee / interviewee…
EMPLOYEE – You quit your job as a secretary because you wanted a new, challenging job. You can type quickly and you know a lot about different computer programs. You want to get a different job than the one you had before. You like inside work as you have a university education and are against doing manual work. Remember: You can make up any information that is not listed on the card.

7 Student X As an employer / interviewer…
EMPLOYER – You have a farm. You are in need of a person who can work with other people well. This person doesn’t have to have much education but they need to be able to work hard and carry lots of weight for your new farm. They must be strong and willing to work outside. Remember: You can make up any information that is not listed on the card.
