2 Objectives Review “Fire Prevention and Protection” section of the safety manual. Analyze the combustion process and the different fire classes. To identify fire extinguisher types, operating procedures, capabilities, and limitations. To explain P.A.S.S. as it relates to fire extinguisher use.

3 First rule – take measures to prevent fires from starting.
Do not carry matches and cigarette lighters into prohibited areas. Know and abide by “No Smoking” areas. Follow bonding and grounding practices. All company vehicles should be equipped with an approved ABC extinguisher. Inspect extinguishers per the policy in your safety manual.

10 Firefighting Decision Criteria
Know site emergency response contact info. Know locations of extinguishers in your area and how to use them. Avoid smoky conditions. Ensure area is evacuated. Don’t attempt to fight unless: Alarm is sounded. Fire is small and contained. You have safe egress route (can be reached without exposure to fire). Available extinguishers are rated for size and type of fire. If in doubt, evacuate!
