1 WARM-UP: NEW Behavior Log is filled out for 10/24/16
Copied Objective, HW into assignment list WARM-UP:

2

3 Introduction to electrical forces
HOT questions: a. Knowing that forces are vectors which have directions, how could you figure out/test the direction of an electrical force created from two charged particles? b. How can an electrical force make something move?

4

5 Identifying Attraction/ Repulsion
Pairing activity: Each person will decide on a charge to be as a particle. Arrows will be held as force vectors Move throughout the room. Every time you meet a particle, you have 3 seconds to hold up the force arrow. First to do so wins. Loser sits down.

6 What raises electrical force?

10 Text Structure – Example Paragraph:
It's a little more complicated than that, but what results is a cloud with a negatively charged bottom and a positively charged top. These electrical fields become incredibly strong, with the atmosphere acting as an insulator between them in the cloud.

11 Get ready for your exams!
Put backpacks up front or on the side Have only a pencil and eraser with you Do not write on class copies of test Stay seated & Silent until ALL are finished

12 Weekly Reflection NEW Behavior Log is filled out for 10/24/16 Copied Objective, HW into assignment list How can you be more actively involved in class or discussions or helping do things in the room? How can you be more actively engaging with our material at home? Example: Studying, building connections, etc. Magic Number is 8!

13 Introduction to electricity in circuits
>HOT question: a. Using your knowledge of chemistry and atoms, predict what is really flowing around when we talk about “electricity”. b. What do you think it means for there to be a stronger electrical charge? More power?

14 Job Division: 1. Procedure Write-up 2. Circuit Drawer 3. V=IR Mathematician!

15 NEW Behavior Log is filled out for 10/24/16
Copied Objective, HW into assignment list WARM-UP: What familiar things/objects/technologies do you think use the most electrical energy? Where does that power or energy come from? What could electrical energy be transferred (changed) to? Why would that energy be needed?

16 WARM-UP:

17 Connections Friday HW 1. Explain how electricity works in an event you know OR 2. Talk about an object that needs to use circuits/ What happens if they fail 3. Pick your favorite piece of technology…What part of a circuit is the most important to this technology? Why? How is it used? Example: A cell phone is the best technology and the battery is the most important part, because it stores energy and charge in the phone so that it lasts longer.

18 Mantra - Your Turn! Today is a great day for science because:
Science is power. We are powerful because: We always make a difference.

19 Goals * State the Objective(s)/Standard (s)- RI 7.3; W2; Sci 2c
* State the Purpose (Big Idea) - SWBAT explain how circuits and generators are related to energy, and apply problem solving skills to real life situations as told in a pick-your-path-story. SWBAT predict the effect of changes to electrical motors and generators and debate alternative sources of energy while summarizing text and analyzing how text structure effects the development of ideas

20 Agenda I Do: Vocabulary/ Note Checks We Do: Discussion of Electricity
You Do: Informational Reading/ Text Structure Questions Summary/ Feedback/ Questions

27 Text Structure in 2 passages
Partner 1: Use the white-erase markers to highlight as you read. Partner 2: Check the key words list to tell your partner when to highlight! Both: Discuss/ complete worksheet questions 1-8

28 Last Items/ Questions Electrical energy comes from the removal of electrons to do work for us There are different ways to organize text. Extra Credit: Power Usage Logs (on website) Need Physics help or want to talk about your grades? Office Hours Sunday, at the Waffle House!

29 GO GO FEEDBACK FRONTIER!
Miss K – In my baggie (Comments on my teaching, living up to my goals, and any personal things you need to privately tell me) Your peers – Feedback to 1 or 2 people… What is something you saw him/her do that matched up with our class values? Why was it really great to see this?

30 Story Check-in: What main ideas have been in the story so far?
How can we connect these main ideas? Update what is currently happening in the story… Who is battling who, where, when, how? Bubble Map What new topics enter the story today that you are familiar with?
