3 What do you know about these terms?
It’s time to Review! Geometry Recall Describe examples of lines, rays, points, angles, line segments, parallel lines, and perpendicular lines What do you know about these terms?

4

5 Essential Question Why do you think points, lines, line segments, rays, angles, parallel lines, and perpendicular lines are considered to be the building blocks of geometry? It is critical that you can answer this question by the end of the lesson!

6 Glue this into your interactive notebook! You have 2 min.
This is the first time you have been taught this skill.

7 How do we classify triangles based on their angles?
We look at the angles that the vertex's form.

8 Parallel Lines never touch. Make an equal sign with your arms
Parallel Lines never touch! Make an equal sign with your arms. This is now or symbol for parallel lines. Perpendicular lines cross each other however, they must form right angles. Use your arms to make a T.

9 Now let’s look at some examples and apply our new knowledge.
4. How many right acute, and obtuse angles are in this shape?

10 Work with your partner on these 6 questions.

11 On your own

12 Reflection Question Why do you think points, lines, line segments, rays, angles, parallel lines, and perpendicular lines are considered to be the building blocks of geometry? It is critical that you can answer this question by the end of the lesson!

13 Extra Practice: Lines, Rays, and angles Small Go Math Book pg. 189

16 Angles Recall Describe It’s time to Review!
The 3 types of angles from yesterday What makes them that type of angle.

17

18 Essential Question How many angles can you find in our classroom? Estimate the size of at least three of the angles that you found. It is critical that you can answer this question by the end of the lesson!

19 Hook:

20 What type of angle is this?
If this is an acute that means it has to measure less than 90°. I know this is an acute angle because the vertex (where the two rays meet) tells me. I also can tell that this angle is not a right angle because it is smaller than an “L”. B C

21 Tell students you are going to divide them into groups of 4
Tell students you are going to divide them into groups of 4. You will want to have a mixed group of strong, medium and weak math students as well as balance the number of leaders in the group. Spread the groups around the room and give each group a piece of yarn that is approximately 4 feet long. Tell the students they will need to listen carefully to your directions, model the figure you have described, and be prepared to justify their answers. Examples: "Please make a 4 sided figure with 4 right angles." "Can you make a different 4 sided figure with 4 right angles?" "Can you make a 4 sided figure with no right angles?" "Please make a 5-sided figure with 2 right, 2 obtuse, 1 acute angles."

22 Exit On their index cards: Draw and label an acute, right and obtuse angle. Ask them to draw a pentagon or a square and identify the angles in that figure. Turn the card over and answer: How do I identify different types of angles in 2-dimensional figures?

23 Reflection Question How many angles can you find in our classroom? Estimate the size of at least three of the angles that you found. It is critical that you can answer this question by the end of the lesson!

26 Angles Recall Describe It’s time to Review!
Draw geometric shapes that include the types of angles. The amount of angles are in the shapes.

27

28 Essential Question How do angles relate to geometry?
It is critical that you can answer this question by the end of the lesson!

29 Today we will be looking at how circles relate to angles and how they measure.
When you look at these circles (Geometric shape) do you see something about the circles?

36 Draw a circle and break it into different turns.
It’s time to Review! Angles Recall Describe Draw a circle and break it into different turns. What turn your circle made and if it is counter clockwise or clockwise directions.
