2 All school’s have a duty of care to keep children safe
Who’s responsible? All school’s have a duty of care to keep children safe Everyone who works in school has the responsibility to keep children safe

3 How do we keep children safe in school?
School Rules E.g. Good behaviour, walk in the corridors, use kind hands, feet and voice, do not bully, play sensibly at play time.

4 Staff Checks All staff and visitors who work in school are checked to make sure they are safe to work with children. Staff have a photo card ID with a black lanyard saying ‘Staff’ and visitors wear various coloured lanyards saying ‘visitor’ .

5 All the outer doors are locked and only open using a door fob/key
Building Safety All the outer doors are locked and only open using a door fob/key Gates are kept closed during school hours

6 Attendance Teachers take the register every day to make sure children are at school. Mrs Fraser carry's out regular checks when children’s attendance is not good at school.

7 Bullying is when children are mean and unkind to each other, not just once but again and again. They might push a child around, leave them out, or send nasty texts or s. This can hurt on the inside or on the outside, and often both.

8 Neglect is when a parent or carer does not look after a child properly
Neglect is when a parent or carer does not look after a child properly. They might not give them enough food and drink, or the right kind of clothing. It can also be when a child is left on their own for too long. 4

9 Physical abuse is when an adult deliberately hurts a child's body
Physical abuse is when an adult deliberately hurts a child's body. They might hit, kick, punch, bite or shake them. This may leave marks on the body such as cuts and bruises. 6

10 Emotional abuse is when an adult hurts a child's feelings
Emotional abuse is when an adult hurts a child's feelings. They might call them names, make fun of them or make a child feel bad about themselves. This hurts children on the inside. Seeing or hearing parents or carers hurting each other can also make a child feel bad.

11 Know the underwear rule
Know the underwear rule. The underwear rule is a simple way to understand how you can stay safe. By learning five easy sayings you can help yourself and others, perhaps a younger brother or sister stay safe.

13 Abuse is never your fault.
Someone might say it is, but abuse is NOT OK and it needs to stop. 14

14 What can children do to keep themselves safe?
Tell an adult if you are worried about anything. Always follow the school rules. Keep safe when using the internet.

15 SPEAK OUT, STAY SAFE If you have any worries it is always good to tell a trusted adult so that they can help you
