2 Prefixes Prefixes: a word part attached to the BEGINNING of a base word or root to form a new word Some prefixes negate. When words are negated, they change the meaning of the base word to its opposite. Examples of negative prefixes are: un-, mis-, non-, a-, de-

A number prefix signifies an amount. Examples of these include: quint-,milli-,quad-, bi-

4 Prefixes Certain prefixes indicate space, direction or time.
A space or direction prefix shows physical position or movement. A time prefix shows chronological order. Examples of space or direction prefixes: sub-, trans-, ex-, super- Examples of time prefixes: ante-, fore-

5 Suffixes A suffix is a group of letters added to the end of a word to make a word with a different meaning. Suffixes can change base words to nouns, verbs, adjectives or adverbs.

6 Suffixes Noun suffixes: -or, -er, or –ist, -ism,-ment, -ology
Verb suffixes: -ate, -en,-ify,-ize Adjective and Adverb: -ful,-ly, -less
