Media Arts Definition New Media Art often involves interaction between artist and observer or between observers and the artwork. New Media concerns are often derived from the telecommunications, mass media and digital modes of delivery the artworks involve, with practices ranging from conceptual to virtual art, performance to installation.

What is Media Arts?

The Medium In the arts, a medium is a material used by an artist or designer to create a work.

Digital Art Digital art is a general term for a range of artistic works and practices that use digital technology as an essential part of the creative and/or presentation process. Since the 1970s, various names have been used to describe the process including computer art and multimedia art, and digital art is itself placed under the larger umbrella term new media art.

Interactive Art Interactive art is a form of art that involves the spectator in a way that allows the art to achieve its purpose. Some interactive art installations achieve this by letting the observer or visitor "walk" in, on, and around them; some others ask the artist to become part of the artwork.

Graphic Design A graphic designer may use a combination of typography, visual arts and page layout techniques to produce a balanced, focused and symmetrical final result. Graphic design often refers to both the process (designing) by which the communication is created and the products (designs) which are generated.

Graphic Design Common uses of graphic design include logos, branding, magazines, newspapers and books, advertisements and product packaging. Composition is one of the most important features of graphic design, especially when using pre-existing materials or diverse elements.

Digital Photography Digital photography uses an array of electronic photo detectors to capture the image focused by the lens, as opposed to an exposure on photographic film. The captured image is then digitalized and stored as a computer file ready for digital processing, viewing, digital publishing or printing.

Film A film, also called a movie or motion picture, is a series of still images on a strip of plastic which, when run through a projector and shown on a screen, creates the illusion of moving images. A film is created by photographing actual scenes with a motion picture camera. The process of filmmaking is both an art and an industry.
