1 Naviance: Do What You Are Personality Survey
Grade 11 FALL Presentation LHS Guidance Department Lowell High School has signed on with a company called Naviance. Naviance is a college and career readiness program that will allow all students at Lowell High to have a clear personalized plan for both their high school and post-secondary careers. We are really excited to have this program at our school. Hundreds of other high schools already use Naviance and once they got used to using it, they all say that it is an amazing program. Get used to hearing the word “Naviance” a lot between now and when you graduate! You will be going into a computer lab like this one twice a year to use it as a class. Once in the fall and once in the spring. We will also spend a lot of time in Advisory explaining how to use the key features of the program. Naviance is a website so you will be able to log in from anywhere you have internet access and you can use it as much as you like. Your school address has been entered into your account and your guidance counselor will be able to communicate a lot of great information to you via . (Next slide)

2 Getting Started Go to the Lowell High website:
Click on “Naviance” at the top right corner Select “Student Login” from the dropdown. Your Username and Password are your LHS ID # Type in your LHS ID# as your username and password. Then click “Log In.” You DO NOT need to click “I Need To Register” under the “Are You New Here Box.” First, let’s login to your accounts. To login, go to Lowell High’s website and select, “Naviance” up at the top right corner of the homepage. Then, simply select, “Student Login,” from the dropdown menu. It would be a good idea to save the login screen as a Favorite on your own computer so you don’t forget how to find it. The next piece of information is VERY IMPORTANT: Your username and password to Naviance is your Lowell High Student ID#. The 6-digit number. When you go into Naviance for the first time, you do not need to click on the “I need to register” button. You are already registered. (Next slide)

Click “Naviance,” then “Student Login” Let’s start by going to the Lowell High Website (lhs.lowell.k12.ma.us). Then click on “Naviance” and then select “Student Login,” from the dropdown menu.

This is what the Log In screen will look like. Again, all you need to do is enter your LHS ID# as your username and password. Then click, “log in.” (Next slide)

Naviance Home Page Check for new messages here! Helpful Links Once you login, you will see the LHS Naviance Home Page. This will be updated on a regular basis with general important information. This is also where you will see if you have any new messages. There will also be links to important websites. As you can see, there are four main Tabs at the top of the page: Colleges, Careers, About Me, and My Planner. The first tab is the Colleges tab where you can do a college search, build a rough draft of your college list, and eventually use the colleges im applying to link for the college application process senior year. Juniors and seniors can also sign up to meet with a college representative during the day by selecting view all upcoming college visits. The Careers tab will allow you to complete the Career Interest and Personality Surveys. Once you have completed your surveys and created a list of potential careers you are interested in, there is an amazing amount of information on thousands of careers in Naviance. Roadtrip Nation videos include over 3,500 video interviews from all different types of leaders in the world to help you with your research. The About Me tab is the place where all of your personal information is stored, including survey results, career and college lists, PSAT/SAT scores, and “tasks” that your guidance counselor has assigned to you. Finally, on the My Planner tab, you will be able to keep track of your goals, your To-Do List, Tasks, and any upcoming deadlines that you need to meet. (Next slide)

6 Today’s Lesson You will log in to your Naviance account
Click on the “About Me” Tab Click on “Do What You Are” Click on “Okay Let’s Get Started” in the middle of the screen Read the description & choose the answer that is most like you; be sure to complete all questions View the full report, including overview & details Next, See Related Careers & add at least 3 Careers to your Naviance account Today, you will log on to Naviance to complete the Do What You Are personality type survey. You will answer a series of questions based on descriptions that sound most like you. Complete all of the answers on the page and then scroll down to select continue. Once you have completed the questions, the survey will identify your personality type, which you can read about under View Full Report. Under the Details link you can also read more about your Strengths & Blindspots, College Satisfiers, Career Satisfiers, Preferred Learning Style, and your Interpersonal Negotiating Style. After you read the report, go back to See Related Careers based on your personality type. Identify 3 careers in the first column that sound interesting to you, click on the career, and add them to your Naviance account. Your survey results will be saved in your account, as well as the careers you have selected, so you can continue your research any time you log back into Naviance. This is not a test.  There are no right or wrong answers.  The more accurately you answer each question, though, the better your results will be.

8 Do What You Are Survey Click on Okay Let’s Get Started
You are about to begin the Do What You Are® Self Discovery Personality Type assessment. Successful completion of the assessment will generate a report that will provide you with important information about your personal characteristics. You will learn about careers that are matched to you, your personal strengths and blindspots, how you negotiate in your daily life, and a host of other useful information. It is important to remember that the science of personality type is not an exact science. However, an understanding of your type can guide you in making better decisions for your future. Click on “Okay Let’s Get Started” and answer all of the questions. Raise your hand if you have any questions (next slide) Click on Okay Let’s Get Started

9 Your Personality Profile
When you finish answering all of the questions, you will receive a description of your Personality Profile. Read it and answer the questions as to how accurate it describes you. (next slide)

10 How Interested Are You In…
Next, answer how interested you are in the career types listed. Scroll through each career, select your answer, and continue until you have selected an answer for each career. This will help prioritize your final Career results and generate your Full Report. (next slide) Select Your Answer

11 View Full Report & Then See Related Careers
Your Results Page Your Personality Type When you finish, please select View Full Report, which will provide information on the following: a description of your personality type, plus more valuable information under Details, including your strengths, your possible blindspots, what a career should have for it to be satisfying for YOU, & your preferred learning style (next slide) View Full Report & Then See Related Careers

12 Potential Career Matches
Click on a Career College Majors Related To That Career After you have read the personality report, return to the results page and select See Related Careers. The careers listed below are all linked to your personality type and are organized by career cluster you have indicated most to least interested in. While there is never a guarantee, people of your type have indicated job satisfaction with these careers. Try clicking on a few occupations that interest you. (next slide)

13 What a Career Page Looks Like
Name of Career Overview Tab Job Description Related Occupations When you click on an occupation, your screen will look like this. There are 4 Tabs. The first tab, “Overview,” provides you with the job description, a list of related careers, related college majors, and a video to watch about that occupation. Now click on the “Knowledge and Skills” Tab. (next slide) Related College Majors Watch a Video

14 Add Careers to Your Account
Add at least 3 Careers to your Naviance account Click “Add To My List” As you look up career information, click on “Add To My List” for at least 3 Careers. Add more if you like. These will be saved to your Naviance account and you can find them in your About Me Tab from then on. You won’t have to do the survey over again.

15 Conclusion Make sure you completed the Do What You Are Survey
Make sure you added at least 3 Careers to Your Account Log Out Spend time on your own researching careers through your Naviance account. Before you leave, make sure you have done the following: Completed the Do What You Are Survey & added at least 3 Careers to your Naviance account Log out & don’t forget to spend time on your own researching careers in more detail.
