8 Agenda File “sync and share” fits into a broader document collaboration portfolio and opportunity. How we evaluated 16 file sync and share solutions Making the right choice or choices for you What’s the future of document collaboration?

9 Ten factors will shape the file sync and share market
Employees want convenience and access on all devices. Business collaboration is increasingly multilocation . . . . . . and multiparty. Cloud content service providers offer convenience and accessibility. IT doesn’t have a line item in its budget for file sync and share. Collaboration platform vendors bundle file sync and share features. At least 40 vendors feel they have a claim on this market. Prices are exposed and hence vulnerable. Security and compliance are IT requirements but not user concerns. Documentless document collaboration is on the rise

10 We chose 16 vendors . . . and still had to leave out some important ones
We chose solutions that our CIO clients are asking about most frequently and that we felt had the strongest momentum and business focus. Even so, we had to leave out Workshare, BoardVantage, Good Technology, Intralinks, and Workday. Solutions spanned cloud, on-premises, and hybrid delivery architectures. Some solutions are standalone; others are bundled into broader offerings.

14 Agenda File “sync and share” fits into a broader document collaboration portfolio and opportunity. How we evaluated 16 file sync and share solutions Making the right choice or choices for you What’s the future of document collaboration?

15 First, define your scenarios
attachment replacement Mobile and multidevice file sync Partner collaboration file sharing Distributed team file sharing M&A Case management workflow Contracts workflow And so on and so on

16 Next, resolve three dilemmas
Architecture: cloud, on-premises, or hybrid? Platform: agile pure play or strategic supplier? Price: lower cost or higher functionality?

17 Three delivery architectures will compete
On-premises Hybrid Cloud Storage cost Control Security Compliance Choice Balance of risk and control; performance and compliance Performance Collaboration Mobility Search? Best for Collaboration Performance Mobility Search? Complexity Administration Storage cost Compliance Worst for

18 Three conflicting forces compete to determine the pricing
Consumer services set the price point at $0. Bundles drive the price down (call it $1/user/month). Value drives the price up (to maybe $40/user/month). Bring-your-own storage shifts cost to a different line item.

19 Finally, use the Forrester Wave™ tool to customize your shortlist
Download the spreadsheet with the full evaluation and weighting factors. Narrow the vendors included to those that pass muster for security, delivery architecture, and scenario coverage. Customize the weightings to get a unique ranking based on your unique needs.

20 Agenda File “sync and share” fits into a broader document collaboration portfolio and opportunity. How we evaluated 16 file sync and share solutions Making the right choice or choices for you What’s the future of document collaboration?

21 Unlocking the future of document collaboration
Mobile becomes the dominant content consumption and creation platform. “Sync and share” becomes a feature (after all that work doing this Forrester Wave™). New dominant content vendors emerge based on “born in the cloud” first-mover advantage. These vendors draw partner ecosystems that increasingly threaten the status quo document collaboration and ECM markets.

22 Unlocking the future of document collaboration (cont.)
Product barriers between content, social, and communication disappear. Real content integration standards emerge. Content becomes portable and consumable across any system with appropriate access. Barriers between on-premises and cloud disappear.
