1 Equality for Same-sex Marriage
By: Madison o. kayla p. Dylan B.

2 What’s the issue? Proponents  believe that it is a civil right since it doesn’t interfere with opposite-gender marriage Same-sex couples should be able to have the same rights as opposite-sex couples Proponents say that “traditional” marriages has changed the definition and opposite-sex is not accurate Many religious leader and churches support same-sex marriages (Supports the bible scriptures) Opponents consider same-sex practices sinful behaviors Sends the wrong message to children It threatens the institutions of “Traditional” marriages between opposite sexes Children hunger for their biological parents (They’re young and don’t understand LGBT)

3 Who's involved LGBT People-They believe it is unfair because people think that same-sex marriages shouldn’t be a thing Religious people- Specific beliefs think it is okay for same-sex marriages being legal but other religions do not Proponent People- They have no problem because its their opinion Opponent People- They have a problem because its their opinion Supreme Court and other Courts around the world- The supreme court is who allowed same-sex marriage to be legal and people in other countries are rioting because they want to make same-sex marriages legal

4 Where is it happening? Almost everywhere around the world especially Australia (They are very serious about equality since their prime ministers aren’t allowing it) People in many states are fighting to either remove the law or keep the law

5 When is it occurring? When did it start?
The problem started in the United States A gay couple (Richard John Baker & James Michael McConnell) went to Hennepin Court District Court Gerald Nelson for a marriage license Gerald Nelson denied their application since they were both men Richard & James both sued Nelson because the Minnesota law on marriage never mentioned gender The fought began for equal rights of marriage as countries began to legalize same-sex marriages It still continues but it is not as big as when the conflict first started because people were used to it

6 How are things at the moment?
The seems to have calmed down more than when the conflict first started The community seems to have calmed down a little bit because they are beginning to get used to LGBT people in their community There are still currently parades for LGBT and many are also still opposing to the law People have their opinions but they don’t make a big deal out of it Australia still has problems after their prime ministers didn’t pass the same-sex law

7 Why is this an issue? Many people don’t agree to the idea of marrying the same gender It may be their opinion or religious reasons Other people believe marrying the same gender is acceptable They accept LGBT or they support it It’s a problem because it may interfere with religious beliefs and it doesn’t match up with our “normal” culture (which is marrying opposite-sex)

8 How is culture involved?
Religion-Some religions support but others don’t The culture in the US was that marriages were usually man and woman Since LGBT didn’t agree to this, they started a debate on same-sex marriages This is because we aren’t used to this new marriage type. We don’t believe its “normal” because we grew up learning that a “normal” marriage is a man and woman.
