1 ATA’s Technology & Maintenance Council

2 TMC’s Background/Mission
TMC began in 1956 when a small group of maintenance directors sat down with representatives from the truck manufacturing community to discuss recurring equipment maintenance problems. TMC is a diverse group of industry professionals who work together to improve truck equipment & technology. TMC’s membership is made up of more than 2,600 individuals who represent every sector of the industry.

3 TMC’s Mission (continued)
TMC develops industry-recognized recommended practices used by fleet managers to efficiently specify and maintain vehicles. TMC’s industry best practices also provide guidance to manufacturers in the design of their equipment. Currently, TMC has more than 400 Engineering and Maintenance Recommended Practices. TMC provides VMRS coding convention for maintenance & parts inventory.

8 TMC’s Future Truck Program
TMC’s Future Truck Committee promotes activities that improve transport equipment, its maintenance and maintenance management by influencing future equipment design through collective user input. Method more effective for fleets than relying on direct fleet-to-manufacturer relationships, achieves industry standardization through broad consensus.

14 Testimonials

15 “(At TMC) there’s a network (of professionals) who aren’t afraid to have the difficult conversations. They typically reach conclusions by leveraging the experience we have across multiple fronts. The open dialogue yields solutions across the board including positive results in safety and profitability.” - Phil DeSouza, VP of Maintenance & Security for Bennett Motor Express, Mc Donough, Georgia .

16 “(At TMC) I learned a lot about the process for developing HVAC standards that the equipment manufacturers must meet and that companies will be expected to maintain. In another session, I learned about tire inflation systems and in another, fleets openly discussed their maintenance issues. There are so many exciting and new things out there that most people outside the industry don’t know about. It seems we are all in the same situation throughout the maintenance field.” – Fred Trammel, Shop Manager, Transport America, Inc.

17 “The TMC meeting experience was a game changer
“The TMC meeting experience was a game changer. I was like ‘wow, this is amazing!’ I’ve heard people complain that there’s no place to get training and education, and now I tell them that there is huge amounts of information through TMC. You have the power to go into the study groups and change the fleet operations. I won’t miss another opportunity.” - Steven Weiser, CSAM, Sr. Government Equipment Compliance Specialist, Fleet Services, Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois (TMC member since 2001)

18 “There’s a power in numbers
“There’s a power in numbers. If many fleets are having the same problem, we can team together and come up with a solution that will solve the problem for the industry and not just for the individual.” themselves — Dan Umphress, Reg. Facilities Mgr., Transportation & Warehouse; The Kroger Co., Cincinnati, Ohio (TMC member since 2001

19 “TMC is a place to listen and learn because this is where all (industry) rules are made. I believe in this process so I bring my new employees so they can get involved as well as understand why we follow TMC’s RP guidelines for our products . Everything is a learning process.” - Joanne Bjick, Director Business Development C&PV - Truck Market, Dometic Corporation, Grand Haven, Michigan

20 "The strength of TMC has always been in its ability to get answers for its members through its members. TMC literally invented “crowd sourcing" for fleet professionals in 1956 and its a tried and true method that has proved its value time and time again for more than 60 years” — Robert Braswell, TMC executive director.

21 “People don’t join TMC for the social aspects of membership, but rather for the value they receive. Fleet members generally save more on maintenance techniques and identifying new regulations than they spend attending the meetings. Associate members make valuable sales contacts with both large and small fleets.” – John Martin, retired Silver Spark Plug “Membership in TMC, along with regular attendance at Council meetings, plays a significant role in keeping abreast of today’s dynamic truck industry.” – Mike Walters, Maintenance Director
