1. A Word to Shepherds
1 Peter 5:1—4

2. Be good shepherds. Pay attention to your life with Christ, love his sheep and seek to please Him alone.
Spiritual Leadership Principle:

3. A Vital Personal Experience with Christ.
Peter was a fellow elder of the church, commissioned by Jesus Himself.
Peter witnessed the glory of Jesus revealed on the mountain, Matt. 17:1-5.
Peter also witnessed the sufferings of Jesus personally.
Peter’s experiences shaped him.

4. A Loving Concern for God’s Sheep.
To Shepherd: lead, take care of, provide for.
Exercise Oversight: not from imposition or obligation, but willingly. Serve eagerly, not simply for gain.
Be Examples: Phil. 3:7; 2 Thess. 3:9; 1Cor. 11:1. Because we will give account.

5. A Desire to Please Christ Alone.
Because He is returning.
Because He brings our reward.
Because He is worth pursuing.

6. Spiritual Leadership Principle Application:
People are still looking for strong leadership. Give it.
As a spiritual leader, I will pursue Christ to please Him alone.
As a shepherd of God’s sheep I will feed and care for them faithfully.
As an elder of the church I will serve willingly.
