Multiplying and dividing integers
Chapter 2 Multiplying and dividing integers
2
Learning Target TSW multiply integers.
3
Multiplying Integers with Different Signs
The product of two integers with different signs is NEGATIVE. POSITIVE x NEGATIVE = NEGATIVE NEGATIVE x POSITIVE = NEGATIVE Examples: 6(-4) = -24 -5(7) = -35
4
Multiplying Integers with the Same Sign
The product of two integers with the same sign is POSITIVE. POSITIVE x POSITIVE = POSITIVE NEGATIVE x NEGATIVE = POSITIVE Examples: 2(6) = 12 -10(-6) = 60
5
Learning Target TSW divide integers.
6
Dividing Integers with Different Signs
The quotient of two integers with different signs is NEGATIVE. NEGATIVE ÷ POSITIVE = NEGATIVE POSITIVE ÷ NEGATIVE = NEGATIVE Examples: 33 ÷ (-11) = -3 -64 ÷ 8 = -8
7
Dividing Integers with the Same Sign
The quotient of two integers with the same sign is POSITIVE. POSITIVE ÷ POSITIVE = POSITIVE NEGATIVE ÷ NEGATIVE = POSITIVE Examples: 15 ÷ 5 = 3 -64 ÷ (-8) = 8

Quick Recap of Rules for Operations with Integers
Add Same Signs: Add absolute values. The sum has the same sign as the integers. Different Signs: Subtract absolute values. The sum has the sign of the integer with the greater absolute value. Subtract To subtract an integer, add its opposite. 3. Multiply and Divide Same Signs: The product or quotient is positive. Different Signs: The product or quotient is negative.
