2 CORE+ Curriculum 36 CORE Hours: Oiler Six Hours:
Critical Thinking Skills – Outcomes Oral and Written Communication Skills - Outcomes Relationships Within the World - Outcomes Engagement for Meaningful Lives and Productive Careers - Outcomes Oiler Six Hours: Includes at least 3 hours of capstone/experiential learning (U1) Gives students up to 3 hours to explore (U2): Performing and creative arts Lifelong learning and wellbeing Additional CORE coursework There’s a variety of ways that students can students can achieve this 6 hour requirement….

3 Process for Rubric Development
• Each dean appointed four faculty to assist General Education Committee members in developing a rubric for each learning outcome. • The GE Committee solicited additional volunteers to assist in rubric development in areas that were not represented. • Members of the GE Committee facilitated discussions with faculty members who are content specialists. • Current rubrics were piloted by a select group of faculty in Spring and Summer of 2017. • Full implementation is set for the academic year for all courses holding CORE+ status.

4 Core+ Spring/Summer Pilot
• Core+ assessment was piloted this past Spring and Summer. • A total of 4 courses in the Spring semester and 13 in the Summer participated, with a response rate of 56% by students (technical glitch lowered first Summer session responses). Additional faculty were trained in the Summer but did not participate in the pilot (total of 18 faculty). • A total of 5 of the 6 UF Colleges participated, with C1, O1, O2, O3, R1, E2, and U1 all represented. • Feedback from students and faculty that participated was used to improve assessment process for full implementation.

5 Taskstream Utilization
• Unlike the previous GE Curriculum, a “point person” for each Department/Program is not required to tabulate and upload data in Taskstream. • Instead, each student will be required to go into the LAT side of Taskstream and upload their material to be assessed (Instructors need to help train their students). • The instructor in each course is then required to perform assessment and input data in Taskstream. Information on LAT side is under UF_Committees/General Education Committee/ folder/LAT Taskstream Information • Reports will then be generated and can be accessed in the AMS side (Departments/Programs are still responsible for outcomes assessment). There will be training sessions open to all faculty for Taskstream!

Taskstream Training • General training sessions are available for faculty in one hour blocks: August 29th – 2 pm August 30th – 3pm September 7th – 11 am September 11th – 11 am September 18th – 9 am There will be also be “walk-in” sessions in the Learning Commons at the end of the year for questions regarding utilization of Taskstream and input of Core+ assessment data: Nov 13-16th (Mon-Thurs) 3-5pm Nov 28 & 30th (Tues & Thurs) 3-5pm Dec 5-7th (Tues-Weds-Thurs) 3-5pm

7 Process for Application
• Courses seeking CORE+ status will complete the required form. *The form is electronic. *No paper copies will be accepted. *Incomplete forms will not be accepted. • Courses may only apply under ONE learning outcome. • Acceptance/approval will be sent to the faculty member identified as the contact person on the application via . • Approved courses will be submitted to the Undergraduate Council for final approval.

• Here is the form: Proposed CORE+ Curriculum Application Form • Please be sure to complete all fields. • It is important for faculty to describe the chosen assignment in detail as well as providing a thorough rationale as to how assessing the assignment will align to the learning outcome. • We encourage creating new, innovative, multidisciplinary courses to meet the needs of our students. Two deadlines for the year: Mid-October and Mid-March

9 Where Will I Find The Application Form and Rubrics?
A facstaff will be sent out on Friday, August 25, 2017 containing the link to the form with a reminder regarding the deadline for submission. 11 Critical Thinking Skills - Outcomes
C1. Students will use scientific inquiry to interpret data, solve problems, or draw conclusions, in disciplines such as, but not limited to, Anatomy, Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Physics, and Physiology. OBR req. #5. C2. Students will use methods in mathematics, statistics, or logic to interpret data, solve problems, and draw conclusions, in College Algebra, Pre-Calculus, Trigonometry, Calculus, Statistics, and Formal/Symbolic Logic. OBR req. #2. C3. Students will apply relevant terms, concepts, and histories to critically analyze political, social, religious, philosophical, or economical systems, in disciplines such as, but not limited to, Communication, Economics, Political Science, Psychology, and Sociology. OBR req. #4.

12 Oral and Written Communication Skills - Outcomes
O1. Students will demonstrate oral communication skills for a variety of workplaces and disciplines, in courses such as, but not limited to, COMM 110 or 211. OBR req. #1. O2. Students will evaluate information for reliability and legitimacy, and demonstrate rhetorical skills in written texts for academic and professional environments, in courses such as, but not limited to, ENGL 202, 272, 282, 302, 305, and 306. OBR req. #1. O3. Students will demonstrate competency in broadly applicable current technologies, in courses such as, but not limited to, CSCI 148, 149, 150, or 190. OBR req. #5.

13 Relationships Within the World - Outcomes
R1. Students will identify the similarities and differences among individuals, groups, societies, and/or languages to apply and integrate these multicultural perspectives for interaction in a diverse world, in disciplines such as, but not limited to, History of Art, Dance, Film, Music, or Theater; Languages; Ethics; History; Literature; Philosophy; Religion; or Ethnic or Gender Studies. OBR req. #3. R2. Students will evaluate relationships between humans and the natural world and demonstrate responsible stewardship of natural resources in disciplines such as, but not limited to, Biology, Chemistry, and Environmental Science, or in disciplines such as, but not limited to, Economics, Political Science, and Sociology. OBR req. #5 or OBR req. #4. R3. Students will apply principles of value and civic duty in a wide range of settings, including their relationship to local and global communities and the social, political, and cultural issues therein, in disciplines such as, but not limited to, Communication, Economics, Political Science, Psychology, and Sociology. OBR req. #4.

14 Engagement for Meaningful Lives and Productive Careers - Outcomes
E1. Students will evaluate questions of meaning, faith, and vocation in light of enduring religious and philosophical texts and traditions, in courses such as, but not limited to, RELI 101, 102, 235, 240, or PHIL 100, 210, or 270. OBR req. #3. E2. Students will articulate and defend aesthetic arguments or craft expressive work within larger historical or modern contexts, in disciplines such as, but not limited to, History of Art, Dance, Film, Music, or Theater; or Literature. OBR req. #3. E3. CORE Elective. Students will demonstrate the disposition of UF graduates to pursue meaningful lives and productive careers by completing any additional three-semester-hour 100- or 200-level GE-approved course from the 11 CORE Outcomes listed above.

15 Oiler Six - Outcomes 6 Additional Hours of Approved Upper- or Lower-level GE Courses Students will engage in reflective summative study in a capstone course, and/or engage in on- or off-campus experiential learning (undergraduate research, service learning, internships, study abroad), for three to six semester hours of coursework, and, for no more than three semester hours, students will: perform or create original expressive work, OR articulate models promoting lifelong learning and wellbeing, OR complete an additional CORE Elective (e.g. E3)
