MODAL VERBS meaning A modal expresses necessity, uncertainty, ability, or permission

3 MODAL VERBS : Can Ability, Suggestion, Informal request EX)
You can swim. (ability) Can you take me to the work? (request)

4 MODAL VERBS : May Possibility, Formal request Ex) It may snow tomorrow. May I borrow your book?

5 MODAL VERBS : Might Possibility Ex) She might accept the offer.

6 MODAL VERBS : Must Obligation, Certainty that something is true, Prohibition Ex) you must wear a seatbelt. (obligation) you mustn't use your phone in the class.(prohibition)

7 MODAL VERBS : Should / shouldn’t
Advice, Opinion, Likely in the future. Ex) You should get a haircut.(advice) They should win tonight.(Likely in the future)

8 MODAL VERBS : Will Future, Request, Offer/Willingness/Refusal, Conditional EX) I will be there in March.(future) Will you call me tonight? (request)

9 Class survey Meet your friends and ask what they can do. Ex) Q : Can you play a guitar? A : Yes I can / No I can't.

Subject Modal verb Main verb Complement I We They You He She It can may might must should Will go to sleep. drink some water. eat some food. do some exercise. Use the basic form or INFINITVE of the main verbs after the modal verbs.

What are you doing this weekend? - I don’t know 3. When will you see Amy again? - I’m not sure 4. How are you going to get home tonight? 5. What are you going to have for dinner? - I don’t know 6. What are you going to buy? - I haven’t decided yet

14 MODAL VERBS must/can Look at the picture. Then complete the sentences with must, mustn’t, can or can’t.
