1 Vocabulary Week 11

2 Word 1: Formidable Def: Very powerful and impressive Sent: Superman was a formidable competitor for Spiderman in Hero Dance Contest.

3 Word 2: Mediocre Def: Of moderate or low quality Sent: Spiderman knew he was only mediocre when it came to dancing.

4 Word 3: Nuisance Def: Thing or person who causes you trouble or bother Sent: Superman saw Spiderman as nothing but a nuisance who envied his dancing.

5 Word 4: Considerate / Consideration Def: Thinking of other people’s feelings, needs Sent: Superman had no consideration for Spiderman’s dream of becoming a dancer.

6 Word 5: Vast Def: Huge in area or large in amount Sent: There was a vast difference between their abilities to dance and Spidey knew it.

7 Word 6: Relevant / Relevance Def: Important and connected to what is being considered Sent: Superman felt dancing was not relevant in his life although he was good at it.

8 Word 7: Irritate / Irritating Def: Annoying, something that bothers you Sent: Spiderman was irritated by the thought that Superman was a better dancer.

11 Word 10: Lurk Def: Be secretively hidden watching someone Sent: Spidey lurked outside of Superman’s house hoping to see his new dance moves.

12 Word 11: Perch Def: To sit on a seat high up Sent: Spiderman perched himself on a roof ledge and watched Superman dance.

13 Word 12: Winding Def: Something that changes direction a lot, usually a road or river Sent: Superman danced as his arms seem to be winding in all directions simultaneously.

14 Word 13:Banquet Def: A formal meal with lots of people, feast Sent: There was an impressive banquet before the Hero Dance Contest.

15 Word 14: Acquire Def: To get something by buying or hard work Sent: Spidey had acquired some nice dance moves but would it be enough.

16 Word 15:Suppress Def: To put down an idea or rebellion by using force Sent: Spidey had suppressed many evil rebellions but he wanted this more.

17 Word 16: Insane / Insanity Def: Not normal in thinking, crazy, not sane Sent: Had Spidey gone insane over wanting to win this dance contest?

18 Word 17: Beckon Def: Body language telling someone to come Sent: Spiderman beckoned Superman to come join him on the dance floor.

19 Word 18: Dispose Def: To get rid of, throw away Sent: Spiderman was confident that he could dispose of all the competition that day.

20 Word 19: Grim Def: serious, unfriendly and unpleasant Sent: Spiderman knew his chances were grim when he saw Catwoman dance, ouch!

21 Word 20: Intricate Def: Complicated because it is made of many small parts Sent: Catwoman’s intricate feline moves won her the contest ,further depressing Spidey.
