1 How do I succeed in Year 11 GCSE science?

2 GCSE Double Award Science
Your child is sitting a double GCSE science qualification. In year 10 they sat 3 of the 6 examinations. Unit 1 – Biology, Unit 2 –Chemistry and Unit 3 – Physics. Your child has received these results already. Your child is to aim for at least one grade above their Year 10 grade for each of the units. During week starting 22nd and 29th January 2018 they will complete science controlled assessment (coursework). This accounts for 10% of the final grade so can act as a real booster to the final result.

3 Re sitting Year 10 examinations
If your child missed any of their Year 10 science examinations, they can re-sit them in June 2018 with the current Year 10 students. If your child did not do as well as expected they may be advised to re-sit one or more of the Year 10 examinations too.

4 How can your child succeed in science?
Attend all their lessons and copy up notes from a friend if they are away. Complete all the homework set on time. Use the success criteria column of the learning plans as a checklist. Buy or download a revision guide for each subject. Use the WJEC question bank to practice past paper questions. Use the assessments to make a checklist of things to improve on. This could be done by using online or book resources or seeing their teacher for extra help. Use Miss Gill-Taylors “Quizlet” revision tool online.
