3 Introduction to Forces
Contact Normal Net Balanced/Unbalanced Friction Elastic Tension Strong Weak Non-Contact Electrostatic Gravitational Magnetic -Using the PHET simulations and the net, choose four forces and find a simulation that is an example of each. -Give a brief description of how the simulation is an example of each force.

4 Forces introduction cont.
Using the PHET simulations and the net, you’ll describe four types of forces and how the simulations are examples of each.

5 No laptops for now.

7 Forces A push or pull on an object.

8 Contact Force Non-Contact Forces
Gravitational—Force exerted because of mass. Electrostatic Magnetic Normal—Force that prevents separate masses from occupying the same physical space. Net—All forces acting on an object. Friction—Force that opposes motion between two objects that are in contact. Balanced/Unbalanced Elastic Tension Strong Weak

9 Balanced/Unbalanced Balanced Unbalanced
When all forces acting on matter cancel out. Results in objects either being stationary (still) or motion if unbalanced. Unbalanced When a forces acting on a object are not cancelled out and the object is in motion.

10 Elastic When a force is exerted on an object but the object can return to its original shape. ?v=A50yqL_MHLY

11 Tension Force exerted on an object as it is pulled on opposite ends.

12 Electrostatic Force exerted because of the electrical charge objects have. Results in an attraction or repulsion between two (or more) objects. /legacy/balloons

13 Magnetic Force exerted due to magnetic field.
Can also result in attraction or repulsion. Results from the alignment of spinning electrons within a material.

14 Strong/Weak Strong Weak
Force that holds protons and neutrons together (Nuclear Energy) Weak Force responsible for radioactive decay
