Huang River – 3,000 mile river that flows across northern China North China Plain – delta that the Huang River flows into before exits into Yellow Sea Loess – dusty, yellow soil that has been deposited by wind Negative – easily swept away by storms A.K.A. – Yellow River

4 Huang River Flooding in the summer – silt
Levees – a wall that keeps a river within its banks Canals built for irrigation

5 Crops Rice, grain, wheat, Population grows
Trees are cleared to provide more farmland Erosion – wearing away of soil by wind or water

6 Crops Loss of soil from erosion made farming difficult Crops fail
Famine – time when very little food is available and people starve
