Of the 4,691 students who took at least one test 1,570 ( 33.5%) placed into pre-and beginning algebra.

11 BSI NEEDS – LOOMING CRISIS
75% of incoming students place into basic skills courses (Math, English, ESL) Only 26% of these students will get a seat in a basic skills course Of these, only 10% of the basic skills math students will succeed in the next level of math within the next year Only 21% of the basic skills math students will reach transfer math level within 6 years.

JUMP START TO LEARNING 2 WEEKS BEFORE START OF FALL AND SPRING NO COST TO STUDENTS, NO CREDIT REVIEWS MATH CONCEPTS

25 CURRENT MATH BSI AT PCC 4. PRE-ALGEBRA/COUNSELING COOPERATIVE PROGRAM
Students complete education plan Students meet with co-op counselors at least two times a semester without appointments Counselors pro-actively help, support, and mentor students Counselors work closely with instructors to monitor student progress

26 CURRENT MATH BSI AT PCC 5.SUPPLEMENTAL LEARNING
OFFERED FOR BEGINNING ALGEBRA CURRENTLY FUNDING IS ALLOCATED FOR 5 CLASSES ONLY

27 CURRENT MATH BSI AT PCC 6. STREAMLINING MATH CURRICULUM
CREATED NEW SLO’S FOR BSI COURSES CREATED RUBRICS FOR SLOS ELIMINATED REDUNDANCY IN CURRICULUM TEACH LESS BREADTH, MORE DEPTH COLLABORATIVE MATH DIVISION EFFORT

28 CURRENT MATH BSI AT PCC 7a. VERTICAL ALIGNMENT
EXAMINED CURRICULUM FOR ALL BSI COURSES NUMERICAL FOUNDATION– MEANINGS OF FRACTIONS AND DECIMALS; AND WHOLE NUMBERS PRE-ALGEBRA – RATIONAL NUMBERS BEGINNING ALGEBRA – REAL NUMBERS INTERMEDIATE ALGEBRA – COMPLEX NUMBERS
