1 Generating Activities
Introduction Impact Generating Activities Hekma ACHOUR Kavala, June 7th, 2017 This project has received funding from the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No

2 I- Objectives/Impact General impact
Implementation of the BLUEMED Initiative's vision Developing strategic research and innovation Developing an integrated Mediterranean observing system Help national strategies to frame direct and indirect maritime activities Help to cope with global challenges Saving time and money for end users

3 2. Specific impact Support sustainable growth of Mediterranean marine and maritime economy Generating activities (fisheries- touristic- industrial- aquacultures…) Improve implementation of maritime and environmental policies and legislations Increase safety of offshore activities and coastal communities Improve the professional skills and competences of those working and being trained to work within the blue economy ( mariculture operators; coastal, Fisheries, Public health and Environmental authorities; scientists; policy makers; citizens)

4 II- Outputs Contribute quality and useful existing Mediterranean data
Contribute new data to the observatories Data incorporated into the ODYSSEA system will be made available freely and openly through existing global observatories Contribute to increasing temporal and geographic coverage of observational data Ease accessible standardized data to existing global observatories Enhance the spatial and temporal coverage of observational data available Improve the predictive capacity of model products Improve the cost effectiveness of data collection in support of ocean-related industrial and societal activities Bolster the evidence underpinning by policy-makers

5 III- Process Identifying Mediterranean data that are not available in European and global data centers Collecting data from platforms and services implemented under the ODYSSEA program Working closely with modelers Working closely with end user groups Sharing geospatial and environmental information with civil society and the public Collaborating with policy users to ensure the relevant data, products and services provided for purpose

6 IV- Summary of main responsibilities as part of WP10
1. Tasks Developing a series of training materials for the education of young scientists, engineers and entrepreneurs of North African countries Train regional and national environmental managers on the use of the platform Present the complex ecological and economic drivers occurring within each Observatory area Demonstrate new technologies developed within ODYSSEA

7 2. Working strategy Identifying end users and their specific needs Collecting missing data (collaboration with WP1) Organizing training session for using materials (ex: sensors) , collaboration with WP5 etc. Communicate the information with the whole WPs Working with stakeholders to set up training education sessions for end users Inter-academic working (conferences / studies / publications) Social media and internet tools Developing activities within the observatory site (Gulf of Gabes) Check if the national strategy match with the gathered data Draft a report on the relevant points to enhance national legislations

8 Thank you for your attention
