3 Department Roles & Responsibilities
Hilary Janzen, Senior Planner Head of the Planning and Development Department for the County Oversee development permitting and duties of the development officer Meetings with citizens regarding development opportunities or challenges in the County Process Land Use Bylaw Amendments and applications for Planning Bylaws (i.e. Area Structure Plans) Enforce the policies and regulations contained in the County’s Statutory and Non-Statutory Plans Provide advice to County Council on planning matters in the County Review and amend all planning documents on a regular basis and at the request of Council Intermunicipal Planning and Intermunicipal Relations Oversee the building code accreditation contract with Park Enterprises Identify areas that would benefit from further planning (i.e. Hamlet Growth Studies, Industrial-Commercial Concept Plans, Grouped Country Residential Areas) 14 September 2018

Sarah Mitchell Development Officer with Lethbridge County Accepts and review development permit applications Meet with County residents to discuss development permits Review and issue letters of compliance Assist the Senior Planner as required 14 September 2018

6 Core Services Development Permitting – review and process development permit applications Planning Services – managed growth, preservation of agricultural land base Subdivisions – review and comment on subdivision referrals Intermunicipal Relations– planning for growth, access to services, regional collaboration Intermunicipal Referrals – review and provide comments on intermunicipal referrals Legislative – drafting Bylaws and Policies as directed by Council Building Permitting – manage contract with Park Enterprises 14 September 2018

7 Core Services Link to Strategic Plan
Agriculture – protect agricultural lands Managed Growth– managing residential development, development in flood prone areas, looking at long-term hamlet growth Enforcement of Bylaws – ensuring the regulations and polices as approved by County Council are adhered to Industrial-Commercial Land Use Strategy to identify key areas for industrial and commercial growth in the future 14 September 2018

Lethbridge County – Picture Butte Intermunicipal Development Plan Joint Industrial Area Structure Plan with the Town of Coalhurst Implementation of the Industrial-Commercial Land Use Strategy 14 September 2018

9 Successes Completed an update to the Land Use Bylaw
Hired a dedicated Development Officer Started on the Joint Industrial Area Structure Plan with the Town of Coalhurst Accreditation in the Building Code Park Enterprises was awarded the contract for building, plumbing, gas, and electrical permitting for the county 14 September 2018

Implementation of the Industrial-Commercial Land Use Strategy Development of Conceptual Development Plans for Priority Areas Working with Other Municipalities on Development Opportunities and Joint Ventures Develop Hamlet Growth/Expansion Plans Develop a Grouped Country Residential Land Use Strategy Work with other county departments to develop a policy regarding fire protection May require more than one slide 14 September 2018
