Purpose – To calculate the carbon stored within trees amongst our quadrant The amount of carbon in urban landscapes previously been unquantified

3 Method Equipment used – Handheld GPS, measuring tape, surveying pole, map, data table Assigned each tree a unique id Located the tree using the gps and plotted this on the map Measured circumference of the tree trunk at 1.4m height Overall we measured 68 trees

average carbon/tree (Kg) = average CO2 sequestered/tree (Kg) = Total Stored Carbon = kg Total CO2 sequestered = kg

7 Results and Interpretation
Equations used based on Martin et al: log10M= xlog10D Here M = dry mass and D = diameter of tree trunk at 1.4m high 45% of dry mass of trees comes from carbon Each kg of dried tree stores 0.45kg of C, it removes 1.65kg of CO2 from the atmosphere.
