2 introduction Driving Question- How can I help the increasing obese population in my area? Topic- working out/ cardiovascular activity Community Need- getting in shape and losing weight Why I chose this topic- I chose this because I love running and it heavily effects my everyday life and I want others to find a love for it too. What I hope to learn- I hope to learn more facts about running and how I can help the community with my knowledge.

3 Why this is a community need
facts Facts about Running Why this is a community need Even if you're really slow, you burn at least 10 calories per minute of running. Over one billion pairs of running shoes are sold world wide each year. In your feet, 26 bones, 33 joints, 112 ligaments, and a network of nerves, tendons, and blood vessels work together when we run. Runners who played ball sports (i.e. soccer or footy) as kids had nearly 50 percent fewer stress fractures than runners who didn’t. Stanford University researchers found that runners who played ball sports had, “greater and more symmetrically distributed bone mass.” (Clinical Journal of Sports Medicine, 2013) This is a community need because the obese population keeps increasing and people don’t know how to help it so it’s my job to step in and help them become informed.

4 scientific relevance What is already known- Running burns calories, builds muscles, busts stress, and boosts heart health; you are your fastest in your 20s. What scientists have figured out-They’ve discovered that running makes you happier. A study done at the University of Montreal showed that the hormone leptin- nicknamed the “sanity hormone”- may be at play. Fulton wrote that while leptin is probably not the only thing controlling the high of running the study “ suggests that people with lower fat- adjusted leptin levels, such as high performance marathon runners, could potentially be more susceptible to the rewarding effects of running and thus possibly more inclined to exercise.” (Fulton, 2016) Why its important to the science community- This is important to the science community because it provides information on the body and how physical activity can help the body.

5 applications How it can be used in the future
How its used in the world today How it can be seen in our daily lives How it can be used in the future Running is a large part of the world today. It helps get people in shape and into the body they want to be in. All around the world there are people trying to lose weight and be the person they want to be. Everyday someone is trying to become a better them so they run/ work-out to get in shape. Anyone can walk out there front door and look around the corner to see someone running. People are always working out. This information could be used in the future to help people get in shape. I also believe this information could help scientists to discover more about how running can effect our bodies.

6 conclusion This project is important to me because running is part of my daily life and I want other people to love it as much as I do. Running is fun in my eyes and I want others to be educated on it. Also, I believe in using your talents for good, so by doing this project I feel like I am helping others by using my knowledge.
