What is the effect of the angle of the launcher on the distance the cap travels? LAB REPORT William, Suli, Sofia, and Mason WILL READS

2 Question What is the effect of the angle of the launcher on the distance the cap travels? SOFIA READS

3 Hypothesis Our hypothesis is if the angle of the launcher is higher the cap will travel shorter. We think this because if the cap goes up in the air it will just drop. SOFIA READS

4 Controlled Variables The amount of Alka-seltzer (1 tablet)
The amount of seltzer water (20 ML) The weight of the cap The place that the launcher is launched The wind of the area The size of the room The temperature of the water SULI READS

8 Procedure First you make sure you are in a big room with the lights.
Also you have to get all the materials: an alka-seltzer tablet, seltzer water (20 ML each time), a measuring tape, a protractor, a film canister plus cap, a launcher, paper towels, and post-its or tape to mark the spots the cap lands. Next, you take the film canister and fill it with seltzer water (20 ML). Then, you put the film canister in the launcher and screw it to the launcher. You also get the alka-seltzer tablet and quickly put the cap on. Next you get back and wait for the launch. After the cap launches, you tape the spot it lands at (not the spot it rolls or bounces to) then you get a measuring tape and measure the distance that the cap travels You then record your data to save your progress and screw the nail out to release the film canister to empty it. Repeat 2 more times while the angle is on 20 degrees. Then, you switch the angle of the launcher to 30 degrees to launch again Next you repeat steps 3-6 at least 3 times for each angle you switch it to until your whole data table is filled up with information. You will also switch the angle of the launcher. (45 degrees) Then redo the steps. MASON READS

9 Data Table: The distance the cap travels in cm
Manipulated Variable Trial 1 Trial 2 Trial 3 Average/Mean The angle of the launcher 20 degrees 268 341 450 353 30 degrees 478 397 455 443 45 degrees 543 545 555 547 WILL READS

11 Conclusion/Results Our result was that the cap will travel farther if the angle was higher, that means that our hypothesis was false. MASON READS

12 Other Questions Why did the cap take too long to launch?
Why did the cap shoot farther when the degree of the launcher was higher? SULI READS
