2 Grading and Incompletes
Grading Symbols: I=Incomplete; WU=Unauthorized Withdrawal; W=Withdrawal (instructor cannot assign); F=Failure in the course. When do you use an Incomplete? Student has completed work, but for reasons outside of their control, may request to complete the work after the semester ends. Semester grade assigned in roster for current work (w/out additional work). Student to complete within one calendar year from the semester in which the class was taken. Instructor may set an earlier deadline than one year. One additional year extension is allowed via petition, if requested prior to the end of the first incomplete year. Change of Grade Cannot change the grade after the grade has posted unless there is an administrative or instructor error.

3 Academic Petitions Late Drop Petition (during the semester)
Retroactive Withdrawal Petition (any time after the last day of the semester) Late Enrollment Petition (students who have been dropped and need adding back into class) Other Petitions: Curriculum Petitions (GE courses, repeat of course for more than two times, waivers for International Students and non-matriculated students who want to take SJSU Studies, PE, intensive GE courses) Graduation Petitions: Excess Open University units, Back-Date of degree,

4 Late Drop Policies Late Drop (during the semester, after drop date) Health Military Assignment Divorce Natural Disaster Employment Personal Administrative Error Retroactive Withdrawal (after the semester) Students must provide documentation.

5 Grade Forgiveness (GF)
Academic Renewal: Replaces previous grade (“C” or less) with new (hopefully better) grade. Students may not enroll in class for GF until the first day of class. Permission # will enroll a student, but not if it is the 3rd time. Must petition for 3rd enrollment:
