Tutorial: How to find Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for chemical products in KLARA without being logged in Ulrika Olsson, PhD Chemical safety coordinator

2 Introduction: The supplier of chemical products shall
Provide the user (you) with a Safety data sheet (SDS) in correlation to the delivery, as a paper copy or in an . It should be written in the national language (Swedish). The provided SDS should be up to date regarding classification (CLP) and consist of 16 mandatory sections: Ulrika Olsson 15th of November 2017

Store the products SDS´s in correlation to the handling of the product, preferably in KLARA. Everyone in the lab should have access to the SDS. To add or update the suppliers SDS in KLARA, send the SDS as a PDF-file to Ulrika Olsson 15th of November 2017

1. Go to the ”Staff portal”, and select KLARA in the ”Digital Tool” menu: Ulrika Olsson 15th of November 2017

2. On KLARA start page click on the link ”Chemical database” in the upper left corner OBS! The link is only available for KI staff connected to KI network on KI campus! Ulrika Olsson 15th of November 2017

3. When you start typing the products name a list of alternatives will appear. The more specific search the shorter the list: You can also search on the chemicals CAS number or on chemical structure! A tip: if you are unsure of name and/or spelling you can truncate your search by using *, for example A*eto* instead of Acetone. Ulrika Olsson 15th of November 2017

To visualize the product presentation (PP) page, click on a products name in the search list On the PP page you'll find information about the product, most important is classification, regulations and such – but also CAS number, unit (volume, mass or kit), UN number and KLARA-id. 5. Safety data sheets from different suppliers are listed under the page ”SDS” Choose your suppliers SDS from the list and click on the name to open the SDS (as a PDF). If the SDS from your supplier is missing in the list or if the SDS is to old/not valid you are responsible for adding the SDS to the database (send to Ulrika Olsson 15th of November 2017

9 Summary and conclusion
The link ”chemical products” is available if connected to KI network on campus. If not on campus you need to be logged in to get access to the chemical information in KLARA. Your supplier is obligated to support you with SDS in correlation to delivery. Make sure the suppliers SDS for your chemical are added to KLARA and that it is up to date (not to old). If not, send it as a PDF to To get access to your own groups chemical register you need a login to KLARA. Contact the departmental chemicals representative (kemikalieombud) to get the access.
