3 Workshop 2: Question Paper

4 Aims To support teachers, lecturers and assessors in their understanding of national standards by: reviewing candidate evidence discussing this evidence and associated Marking Instructions with colleagues asking questions and seeking clarification about national standards

5 Structure 2 Hour Paper, 60 marks Section 1
6 questions sampling individual units, 30 marks Section 2 2 questions integrating across units, 15 marks each

45% 50% 60% 70% 85% Examination Paper Overall Score (scaled to Exam Paper Score)

9 Questions The following questions were well attempted by candidates:
Q1 Project management Q2 Second moment of area and deflection Q3(a) Component function in transmission grid Q6 3-D force equilibrium Q8(a) Shear force diagram Q8(e) Explanation of software function

10 Questions Candidates found the following questions demanding:
Section 1: Q3(b) Calculate power line efficiency Q4 Nodal analysis in electronic circuits Q5 Interfacing a microcontroller with a driver.

11 Questions Candidates found the following questions demanding:
Section 2: Q7 (a) Integrator Q7 (b) Product life cycle Q7 (c) Power transmission in a belt drive. Q8 (b) Maximum bending moment Q8 (d) Explanation of software operation

12 Task Individually: Consider the four responses to the question paper.
Focus on the following questions in each: Section 1 Qs 3, 4 and 5 Section 2 Qs 7(a) and (b), 8(b), (c) and (d) Use the Marking Instructions to award a mark for each response.

13 Task Within your Group:
Did everyone award the same total mark to each candidate? Which questions proved difficult to mark reliably? If there are differences, what are the reasons for the number of marks awarded? In 3-5 mark questions, did everyone award the same mark for the same reasons?
