2. Absorption
Absorption is the process by which the roots absorb water and nutrients from the soil and transport it throughout the plant.

3. Process of Absorption
The root hairs absorb water and nutrients from the soil.
The water and nutrients then move to the xylem within the vascular channel, where it travels up towards the rest of the plant.

5. Roots Roots are part of the plant located beneath the ground.
The function of roots is to absorb water and nutrients from the ground.
There are 2 types of roots: Fibrous Roots and Tap Roots.

6. Tap Root
One or More Large roots extending into the soil with smaller roots branching off.

Many small roots that extend into the soil from the base of the plant.

Function: Absorb water and minerals from the soil.

11. Vascular Channel
Function: Main channel that Transports water and nutrients from the roots to the rest of the plant. Includes the xylem and the phloem.

12. Xylem
Function: Transports water and nutrients from the roots throughout the plant.

13. Phloem
Function: Transports food (glucose) from the leaves to the cells in the roots.

Function: Bundle of hard cells that covers and protects the growing tip of the root
