Sheik Hamad ibn lsa Al-Khalifah declared himself king and began a democratization Ruling class is mostly Sunni while the majority of Bahrain is Shiite

3 Human Rights in Bahrain
Bahrain complied with more of the UDHR until 2011when protests began Bahrain doesn’t allows criticism against the Bahraini gov. This leads to many human rights violations due to Bahraini protests And many people critics are labeled as terrorists to justify the systematic torture that takes place

4 Political Unrest in Bahrain
In 2011 Bahraini citizens began protesting that the Shiite’s were discriminated against Hamad promised to increase jobs, but this led to more opposition Police killed two protestors, and at the funeral attacked mourners

5 Cont. After several successful protests Hamad had Sunni troops from Saudi Arabia come in This caused more conflict, and after violence broke out Hamad declared Martial Law

6 Rights broken due to protest
Because of the protests the UDHR was violated in Bahrain Police arrested peaceful protesters and began to systematically torture the people who were labeled as terrorists

7 Human Rights Violation
Force used to stop peaceful protests Article 19 Torture Article 5 During the state of emergency these human rights were violated

8 Cont. Workers rights Passport taken, poor working conditions, and not allowed to join worker unions Article 23
