1 Galatians The freedom letter

2 The purpose of the law in detail.
A. It was not given so that men could be successful in keeping it. B. It was given to reveal the holiness of God. C. It was given to keep Israel a holy and distinct people. D. It was the middle wall of division between Jew and Gentile. E. It was given to reveal sin. F. It was given to increase sin and the strength of it.

3 G. It was given to show us our utter ruin
Rom 7:14) For we know that the law is spiritual, but I am carnal, sold under sin. 15) For what I am doing, I do not understand. For what I will to do, that I do not practice; but what I hate, that I do. 16) If, then, I do what I will not to do, I agree with the law that it is good. 17) But now, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me.

4 18) For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh) nothing good dwells; for to will is present with me, but how to perform what is good I do not find. 19) For the good that I will to do, I do not do; but the evil I will not to do, that I practice. 20) Now if I do what I will not to do, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me. 21) I find then a law, that evil is present with me, the one who wills to do good.

5 22) For I delight in the law of God according to the inward man.
23) But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. 24) O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death?

6 H. It was given to lead us to Christ
Rom 7:25) I thank God–through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, with the mind I myself serve the law of God, but with the flesh the law of sin. Rom 8:1) There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, 2) For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.

7 3) For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh, 4) that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.

8 Exodus 12:13) And when I see the blood, I will pass over you;

9 Romans 3:25) whom God set forth as a propitiation by His blood, through faith, to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His forbearance God had passed over the sins that were previously committed, Romans 5:9) Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him. Eph 1: 7) In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace.

10 Eph 2:13) But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. Col 1:14) in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins. Col 1:20) and by Him to reconcile all things to Himself, by Him, whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace through the blood of His cross.

11 Hebrews 9:12) Not with the blood of goats and calves, but with His (Jesus) own blood He entered the Most Holy Place once for all, having obtained eternal (perpetual) redemption. 13) For if the blood of bulls and goats and the ashes of a heifer, sprinkling the unclean, sanctifies for the purifying of the flesh, 14) how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?

12 18) Therefore not even the first covenant (Mosaic) was dedicated without blood. 22) And according to the law almost all things are purified with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no remission. Heb 10:3) But in those sacrifices there is a reminder of sins every year. 4) For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and goats could take away sins. 11) And every priest stands ministering daily and offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins.

13 Heb 9:28) so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many
Heb 9:28) so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. To those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation. 12) But this Man, after He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God, 14) For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified.
