6 Comparing Fair Share with “Proportional Giving” to the National Church

7 How is it Calculated? Envelope offerings, open offerings, donations from church organizations and fundraising for undesignated purposes are subject to Fair Share The National Church includes INVESTMENT income when calculating our proportional giving; the diocese DOES NOT include this The Diocese asks for 18.5% of giving to be sent as Fair Share The National Church asks for 26% of income which includes our income from Fair Share

8 How do we determine how much we need?
Annual Expense budget is set (E) Income from investments and other sources is projected (I) The balance represents the Fair Share need (FS) E – I = FS What happens when Fair Share is not met? Shortfalls in Fair Share force extra withdrawals from investments Therefore, Investment capital is eroded Result: Future investment income potential is reduced by erosion of capital Fair Share Ask % will increase, further impinging on other parishes finances

9 Diocesan Income Sources & Expenses
+ $204,000 Council of The North grant - $204,000 Northern Ministry Expense: First nations clergy salaries, Northern travel, Henry Budd College expenses = $0 + $ Fair Share + $ Other Gifts + $ Investment Withdrawals - $ Diocesan expenses = Surplus/Deficit
