3 VATA IS AN UNIQUE DOSHA Vayu is life, strength, sustainer of the creatures, entire world, master of all activities. ‘Ashukaritwa’ Vata - movement 3

4 Avarana Many clinical conditions imitate Avarana. Samsarga Gatatva
Sammishra Dhatu Gatatva Avarana

5 Three Pathological Conditions of Vata
1. : Pure Vata without mixing with other Dosha i.e. Dosha-Asamsrishta 2. : Vata mixed with other Dosha i.e. Samsarga and Sannipata 3. : Vitiation of Vata due to obstruction of its channel by others

6 Vigeyoh Lakshana Uhabhyam Chikitsa Cha Avirodhita (Sushruta Chiki

7 Definitions of Avarana Vata
“ qÉÉaÉÉïuÉUhÉålÉ uÉåaÉ mÉëÌiÉoÉlkÉÉSåuÉ MÑüÌmÉiÉÉå pÉuÉÎliÉ | ” (cÉ¢ümÉÉÍhÉ cÉ.ÍcÉ.28/59) Margavarodha(occlusion/ obstruction) causes obstruction in the speed of movement of Vata, leads to it’s aggravation. “ uÉÉiÉÉÌS SÉåwÉÉÈ ¢üqÉvÉÉå kÉÉiÉÔlÉç xÉuÉÉïXçaÉqÉåuÉ cÉ | AÉuÉ×irÉ MÑüÂiÉå rÉxqÉÉiÉç iÉxqÉÉSÉuÉUhÉÇ ÌuÉSÒÈ || ” (uÉæ±xÉÉUxÉXçaÉëWû) The occlusion or obstruction which produced by Vatadi dosha, Dhatus called as Avarana.

8 Avarana Terminologies
Avarana of Vata : Obstruction of Vata movement - can be due to Pitta, Kapha, Dhatus, Malas, even by other Vatas. Samanyavarana : Vata get obstructed by dosha, dhatu, mala etc. Anyonyavarana : Sub type of Vata get obstructed by another type of Vata. Avaraka : The factor which causes the obstruction of Vata is Known as Avaraka. Eg If Kapha causes Avarana of Vata ,the Kapha is called as Avaraka in this context.

9 When Avarana of Vata occurs it is known as Avrita Vata.
Central idea of Avrita Vata – Gati is disturbed due to etiological factors other than its own – Vata vitiation. Avaraka – The substance which obstructs the pathway of Vata. Avarita / Avariya – That which gets covered (Vata). Avaraka suppresses the normal functions of Avariya. Avaraka Avariya

10 Principle of Symptomatology :
If the Avaraka is stronger than Avarya, then the Avarya looses its function and there is increase in the function of Avaraka. If the Avaraka is weaker than Avarya, then the Avarya function get increased and decrease in the function of Avaraka. AÉuÉUMü xuÉMüqÉïuÉ×Ì® (EixÉaÉï) AÉuÉ×iÉ xuÉMüqÉïWûÉÌlÉ AÉuÉUMü xuÉMüqÉïuÉ×Ì® AÉuÉ×iÉ xuÉMüqÉïWûÉÌlÉ

11 The symptoms produced are based on the principles of
Rupahani – Karma Hani. RupaVriddhi – Karma Vriddhi. Rupantara – Anya karma. The symptoms depend upon intensity of the obstruction i.e. partial or complete, functional or organic, acute or chronic

17 SPECIFIC MANAGEMENT Management Specific to type of Avarana.
Example – Alternative administration of Shita and Ushna Kriya in Pittavrita Vata.

18 AVARANA AN ATYPICAL PRESENTATION
No particular history of indulgence of causative factors mentioned for Vata. Hetu will be of Pitta, Kapha, Dhatu, Mala or Anna depending upon the Avaraka involved. The resultant disease is of Samanyaja or Nanatmaj disorder of Vata. These points will be more clear from the two types of Madhumeha described by Charaka.

19 Madhumeha- Nidana Shuddha Vataja Kashaya, Tikta, Katu Ruksha Laghu
Anashana Jagarana Vyayama, Vyavaya Udvega, Shoka Shodhana Atiyoga Vishama Sharira-Nyasa Avarita Vataja Amla & Lavana Snigdha Guru Atimatra Samshntam Nidra Tyakta Vyayama Tyakta Chintanam Shodhana Akurvatam Asya sukha

20 Samprapti of Madhumeha
Shuddha Vataja Provoked Vata due to its Ruksha quality changes the natural sweet taste of Oja to astringent and excrete it through urinary system. This type of Madhumeha is incurable Avarita Vataja Increased Kapha, Pitta. Medas & Mamsa obstruct the Gati of Vata, which in turn carries the Ojas to Basti. It results in Madhmeha having difficult to cure prognosis

21 Madhumeha- Lakshana Shuddha Vataja Avarita Vataja
Kashaya Madhuram Pandu Ruksham Mehati Yo Narah. Vata-Kopad-Asadhyam Tam Pratiyan-Madhumehanam. Passes astringent-sweet whitish and dry urine-All are related with Vata. Avarita Vataja Sa Marutasya Pittasya Kaphasya Cha Muhar-Muhah. Darshayati-Akritim Gatva Kshayam Api-Ayate Punah. Shows the symptoms of Vata, Pitta & Kapha in waxing & waning manner.

22 Madhumeha- Upashaya Avarita Vataja Shuddha Vataja
Upashaya of Vata may further deteriorates the Condition. Anupashaya of Vata may provide some relief in the condition Shuddha Vataja Upashaya of vata gives relief in the disease. Anupashaya of vata further deteriorates the condition

23 It is obvious from the foregoing that there are conditions of vata where: There is no Causative Factor of vata. There is no Upashaya of Vata Even then either the Resultant Disease is of Vata or The main/troublesome symptom is of Vata . Suspect that it may be the Condition of Avarita Vata.

24 Conclusions Avarana are the part of the pathogenesis of some disorders like Avrita Madhumeha, Urustambha. They represent as independent diseases also. They are also helpful to understand the pathogenesis of few complicated diseases in this modern era. Avarana is an atypical presentation so we have to come out of our routine way of diagnosis for a comprehensive management.

25 Thank You One And All
