2 Expression vs. Equation?
What is the difference? Expression is like a phrase in a sentence. Ex: when I went to the zoo… Ex: the other day… Equation is like a complete sentence. Ex: When I went to the zoo, I saw a giraffe.

3 Expressions Are NOT complete. They do not have an = sign. 4x + 3

4 Equations They ARE complete (like a complete sentence). They have an = sign. Ex: 4x + 2 = 10 Ex: 3 x = 23

5 How do we say “=“? Equals Is equal to Is Is the same as

6 Try this… 8 increased by the number x is x = 22 two less than a number y is 4. y – 2 = 4
