3. Romeo’s relation to love is not so simple
Romeo’s relation to love is not so simple. At the beginning of the play, Romeo pines for Rosaline, proclaiming her the paragon of women and despairing at her indifference toward him. Taken together, Romeo’s Rosaline-induced histrionics seem rather juvenile. Romeo is a great reader of love poetry, and the portrayal of his love for Rosaline suggests he is trying to re-create the feelings that he has read about.

4. Romeo meets Juliet for the first time..
At Capulets’ ball, Romeo and Juliet see each other for the first time. After first kissing Juliet, she tells him “you kiss by thy book,” meaning that he kisses according to the rules, and implying that while proficient, his kissing lacks originality.

5. The Balcony Scene
Romeo has entered the Capulet garden to seek Juliet. Romeo stands in the shadows beneath Juliet's bedroom window. Romeo listens to Juliets soliloquy and when Juliet calls on him to "doff" his name, he steps from the darkness saying, "call me but love.” He refers to her as a “bright angel” because he thinks she is as beautiful as an angel.

6. The Fight Scene
 Tybalt calls Romeo a villain. Romeo (now secretly married to Juliet) now Tybalts’s cousin, refuses to be angered by Tybalt’s verbal attack. Tybalt demands Romeo to draw his sword. Romeo protests that he has good reason to love Tybalt, and does not wish to fight him. He asks Tybalt to put aside his sword. Mercutio and Tybalt begin to fight. Romeo, attempting to restore peace, throws himself between the two. Tybalt stabs Mercutio under Romeo’s arm and Tybalt hurrys away. Mercutio dies! Enraged, Romeo declares that his love for Juliet has made him soft, and that he should have fought Tybalt in Mercutio’s place. When Tybalt, storms back onto the scene, Romeo draws his sword. They fight and Romeo kills Tybalt. Romeo, shocked at what has happened, cries “O, I am fortune’s fool!” and flees.

7. Romeo NOW BANISHED finds out that Juliet is dead
Romeo has been banished from Verona for killing Tybalt. The news of Juilets’ death arrives before the Friar has informed Romeo of his plan. Romeo believing that Juilet is dead is plunged into deep despair and decides to join her in death.
“Well, Juilet I will lie with thee to-night”

8. “Here’s to my love, thus with a kiss I die!”
The Final Scene
Romeo is a tragic hero in this scene. He realises there is no turning back from his purpose and he faces death without flinching.
“Here’s to my love, thus with a kiss I die!”
