1 What are the odds of Donald Trump winning the US presidential election?
In four weeks today, we will know the outcome of one of the most unconventional and unpredictable American presidential election campaigns. Over in America, it looks as though 'Trump unleashed' is not having quite the impact he hoped. Opinion poll results show the states are almost exactly evenly split between Trump and his rival Hillary Clinton. However, the president is picked by electoral college votes - win the state and you get all its votes (the precise number determined by the state's population).

2 To win the candidate must get 270 electoral college votes.
The latest Washington Post estimate puts Hillary on 341 electoral college votes to Trump's 197. 341 Hillary Clinton's estimated electoral college votes 197 Donald Trump's estimated electoral college votes

3 Last night, after Donald Trump's party hierarchy more or less gave up on him, the republican presidential candidate pronounced himself "unshackled". It may take a little while to see what he really means by that, but so far its only impact has been to make Hillary seem like the odds on favourite for the White House.
