DO NOW 21. How can you prepare for a Tornado?

DO NOW 22. What is a fossil? The remains or impression of a prehistoric organism preserved in petrified form or as a mold or cast in rock.

DO NOW 22. What is a paleontologist?

DO NOW 23.Give three examples of a trace left by organisms? Fossils can also be traces left by organisms such as burrows, coprolites (feces), tracks and trails, nests or footprints.

DO NOW 24.Name a biotic factor that can affect an organism after death. Scavengers Predators Decomposers

DO NOW 25. Name an abiotic factor that can affect an organism after death.

DO NOW 26.What is Inquiry? A process that uses a set of skills to answer questions or test ideas about the natural world.

DO NOW 27. What is erosion? The process by which the surface of the earth is worn away by the action of water, glaciers, winds, waves, etc.

DO NOW 28. What is mechanical weathering? Give an example? Mechanical weathering of rocks is the process where large rocks at the Earth's surface are broken down into smaller pieces through a variety of physical forces.

DO NOW 29. What is chemical weathering? Give an example? Chemical weathering is caused by rain water reacting with the mineral grains in rocks to form new minerals (clays) and soluble salts.

DO NOW 30. What is Deposition? Deposition is the process by which rocks, sand and sediment are deposited by the forces of erosion.

DO NOW 31. Name four agents (types/causes) of Erosion. Water Wind
Glacier Soil Sea Gravity

DO NOW 32. What are factors that can change the rate of erosion? Weather Climate Topography (shape of the land) Type of rock PERMEABILITY

DO NOW 33. What is the difference between Erosion and Deposition?

DO NOW 34. Name three types of soil. Gravel Loam Sand Silt clay

DO NOW 35. What is a pore? “Soil porosity" refers to the amount of pore, or open space between soil particles.

DO NOW 36. What is a soil? Soils are complex mixtures of minerals, water, air, organic matter, and countless organisms that are the decaying remains of once-living things.

DO NOW 37. Name three layers of soil?

DO NOW 38. How can we protect our soil? Soil conservation is the best way to make sure that we have the land we need to live on or, in my case, live in. If you see your soil eroding, protect it with grass or plants.

DO NOW 39. What is a volcano? A volcano is an opening in the earth’s crust through which lava, volcanic ash, and gases escape. Volcanic eruptions are partly driven by pressure from dissolved gas, much as escaping gases force the cork out of a bottle of champagne.

DO NOW 40. What is the Crust? The Earths crust is the outermost layer of our planet and is less than 1% of the Earth's volume. The crust and the mantle contain different kinds of rocks making them chemically different. The upper mantle rocks are primarily peridotite. The crust contains of a variety of rocks. Igneous rocks, sedimentary rocks, and metamorphic rocks are the main categories of rocks found on the Earth's surface.
