2 Diamond Tools For more than 80 years diamond tools are used for cutting and grinding stone Advantages: ▪ Precision cutting ▪ Protection of surrounding material ▪ Low noise ▪ Dust-free Diamond is the hardest known material in the world

3 Diamond Tools You will find three main producers of synthetic diamond:
Element Six General Electric (USA) Il Jin (Korea) Diamond Tools were invented developed in Korea The following quality characteristics are significant Degree of purity (no oil inclusions of the production process visible) Defined breaking strength Sharp edges Consistent geometry

4 Diamond Tools Composition of the segments Metal powder Diamond
Bronze Copper Iron Metal carbide Hard metal Tungsten carbide Diamond The segments are formed by a technology called sintering. Therefore, the mixture get heated under high pressure, whereby the melting point of the main components doesnt get exceeded. Like this, segments gets kept in shape.

5 Diamond Tools The diamond size, form, purity and concentreation defines the stock removal rate and the lifetime of a diamond tool. The concentration «C» shows the ratio of diamond proportion and bonding. A good diamond tool has a concentration between C25 and C35 which means an amount of approximately 10% diamonds in the segment. The bond of the segment must be suited to the material that has to be cut. Abrasive materials require a hard bond – hard materials require a soft bond

6 Connection of the segments
There are different methods of attaching segments to the steel core Sintered blades Cutting edge covers are directly sintered to the steel core; the cover is bonded to the core through heat and permanent pressure Cold pressed: 600°C Hot pressed: 900°C Laser blades Segments are laser welded to the steel core. Each segment is procuced prior to the welding procedure; this type of production allows better adaption of metal bond, temperature and pressure to application. High pressure temperature method Under high pressure and temperature the segments are bonded in large press mould directly to the core. The beneficial keyed bond guarantees a high safety against a loss of the segments. Hot pressed: 800°C Brazing Brazing is used, in particular, for largesized blades and wet cut (Diameter > 600mm) Electroplating Electroplating of diamond grit is used for cutting marble or glass fiber reinforced plastics.
