Identify at least two themes in The Crucible and provide evidence from the play that supports your answer. Theme Remember, a theme is the author’s message in a piece of work, and it must be in the form of a statement.

John Proctor or Abigail Williams has just sat down across from you at a table. What do you say to him/her? Why? Be specific. Address both characters if time permits. Characterization Are these characters realistic? Are they dynamic or static? Do we find people like this in today’s society?

How did the 17th Century Puritan lifestyle trigger the Salem witch trials?
Cause and Effect Hint: Think about the expectations of the time, their form of government, and the role that children played.

In Act III, Judge Danforth refers to witchcraft as an invisible crime, one in which the only witnesses are the witch and the victim. Since the witch will not confess, he explains, we must believe the victim. Do we have invisible crimes today? Explain. What are some modern-day witch hunts in our society? Explain. Relevancy What is the role of social media in any of this? Greed? Superstition? Mob mentality?
