Agreeing and Disagreeing
I agree (with Mr. …), I am sure the new system will be much profitable. Sorry, I don’t agree(to some extend). I don’t think the new system will be better. Making Suggestions Let’s discuss the technical side. Let’s not discuss the technical side first. How about (What about) discussing the technical side? Why don’t you try another alternative? Asking for, giving, and refusing permission May I leave the office earlier today? Would you mind If I have some time off? It’s ok, but make sure that everything will be fine tomorrow. I must say sorry for now. We have to complete all the preparation before the deadline. You may take my laptop now but don’t forget to return it tomorrow not later than 1 pm.

Conversation example Starting the meeting:
Good morning, everyone. If we are all here, let'sstart the meeting. We're here today to discuss ways of improving sales in rural market areas. First, let's go over the report from the last meeting which was held on June 24th. Asking and giving suggestion: Before I begin the report, I'd like to get some ideas from you all. How do you feel about rural sales in your sales districts? I suggest we go round the table first to get all of your input. In my opinion, we have been focusing too much on urban customers and their needs. The way I see things, we need to return to our rural base by developing an advertising campaign to focus on their particular needs. I'm afraid I can't agree with you. I think rural customers want to feel as important as our customers living in cities. I suggest we give our rural sales teams more help with advanced customer information reporting.

Conversation example Asking for progress
I would like to ask on the progression of the Award Ceremony which has been proposed in the previous meeting. Are all the arrangement in place? Yes, it is almost done. If there is no further changes, everything will be right on schedule. Jack, how is the “OMX” project coming along? John, have you completed the report on the new accounting package?
