The Greatest Shepherd Of All
By Pastor Fee Soliven Psalm 23:1-6 Sunday Morning August 27, 2017

Psalm 23:1-6 1 The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2 He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. 3 He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His name's sake. 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over. 6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me All the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the LORD Forever.

The Shepherd’s Leading The Shepherd’s Provision

1. A vivid picture of the shepherd and his relationship to his sheep

2. The spiritual application as it applies to Jesus Christ and Christians

3. The lesson it communicates about the relationship existing between the pastor of a local assembly and the members of his congregation.

John 10:27-30 27 My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. 28 And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. 29 My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father's hand. 30 I and My Father are one."

The Shepherd

The Good Shepherd

John 10:11-16 11 I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep. 12 But a hireling, he who is not the shepherd, one who does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and flees; and the wolf catches the sheep and scatters them.

13 The hireling flees because he is a hireling and does not care about the sheep. 14 I am the good shepherd; and I know My sheep, and am known by My own. 15 As the Father knows Me, even so I know the Father; and I lay down My life for the sheep.

16 And other sheep I have which are not of this fold; them also I must bring, and they will hear My voice; and there will be one flock and one shepherd.

1 Samuel 17:34-36 34 But David said to Saul, "Your servant used to keep his father's sheep, and when a lion or a bear came and took a lamb out of the flock, 35 I went out after it and struck it, and delivered the lamb from its mouth; and when it arose against me, I caught it by its beard, and struck and killed it.

36 Your servant has killed both lion and bear; and this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, seeing he has defied the armies of the living God."

 The Great Shepherd

Hebrews 13:20 “Now may the God of peace who brought up our Lord Jesus from the dead, that great Shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant.”

The Chief Shepherd

1 Peter 5:4 “And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, you shall receive a crown of glory that fade not away”.

They feed themselves instead of feeding the flock. •
They eat the fat and clothe themselves with wool. They kill the sheep that are fed.

They have not strengthened the diseased. •
They have not healed that which was sick. They have not bound up that which was broken.

They have not brought again that which was driven away. •
They have not sought that which was lost. They have ruled with force and cruelty.

Psalm 100:3 “Know that the LORD, He is God; It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves; We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.”
