3. Land of Who?
Judaism claims territory as “promised land” given to them by God. (approx. 4,000 years ago)
Christianity considers Palestine Holy Land and Jerusalem the Holy City because of events in Jesus life. (approx. 2,000 years ago)
Islam is the most widely practiced religion in Palestine after being conquered by Muslims. Jerusalem is the 3rd holiest city because it is where Mohammad ascended into heaven. (approx. 1,500 years ago)

4. But after World War I – changes happened
The Muslim Ottoman Empire lost control of Palestine to the British who had a mandate to control it.
The British in controlling it allowed Jewish migration to Palestine (again due to persecution).
After World War II tensions and violence between Jewish immigrants to Palestine and Palestinian Muslims escalated.
The British who ultimately were appeasing both sides – decided to leave and the United Nations stepped in with a solution.
