San Jose is a cultural center and a gateway to excellent day trips. The population of San Jose in 2011 was 288,054.

4 Events Some upcoming events in Costa Rica:
The Sun Festival- Annual celebration of the Mayan New Year, fire ceremony and a gathering to promote solar power. International Envision Festival- Costa Rica takes place in the enchanting jungle of Uvita, and is a favorite destination for international travelers with dozens of international music and performance acts, and more. Day of the Oxcart Driver- Otherwise known as the Day of the Oxcart Driver, this colorful celebration features traditional parades and exquisitely-painted oxcarts on display.

5 Landmarks Arenal Volcano National Park Manuel Antonio National Park
Inside the park are the Arenal Volcano, Lake Arenal, the Lake Arenal Dam, and another volcano called Cerro Chato or Mount Chato as it has already been inactive for 3500 years. Manuel Antonio National Park The park has a lowland forest that is home to different species of monkeys, sloths, and iguanas.

7 Historical places Cargo City- This was the first capital of Costa Rica, and it was destroyed by earthquakes. The city now as stone bridges, wooden houses, and a huge Romanesque cathedral. Atlantic Railroad Station- This museum actually used to be a estación de ferrocarril, a railroad station. This station was built in 1871 and was used to trade with European markets until 1890.
